How could someone can a permanent profile to walk the PT test instead of run? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-could-someone-can-a-permanent-profile-to-walk-the-pt-test-instead-of-run

I’ve already had two surgeries on my right knee. I fucked it up again at jrtc two months ago and have an open LoD. Tomorrow I have another appointment for my knee where they are probably going to recommend a 3rd surgery. I literally can’t run anymore. For the past two months I’ve been trying to get back into running but I just can’t because of the pain.

Like today I tried running 30-60s and like 15 seconds into a sprint I get a horrible stabbing pain in the inside of my knee that I have to sit down for a few minutes to get it to go away. Then I try distance runs and about 3-5 minutes in, I get that same pain causing me to stop and sit down for a bit. Next month we have our PT test that goes on record. There is no way I’m gonna be able to pass it.

My readiness nco is the one that told me about the permanent profile so I can walk the run. I’ve emailed him a few times about it but he just ignores them. How would I be able to get this profile? I’m in the Guard btw

This shit is depressing. I would kill to be able to run again. Get guidance from your orthopedist/surgeon about easing back into workout out. Get a referral to physical therapy. Work on getting off the temporary profile. If you cannot resume normal activity after a year on a temporary profile, it will become permanent. At that point, you will be reevaluated every year to determine if you need to remain on a permanent profile.

While a permanent profile may save you now, keep in mind that there are currently no alternative events for the upcoming ACFT. You may end up separated from service in the next few years regardless of a permanent profile, so it is in your best interest to work with your interdisciplinary care team to get back to functional. Best of luck! It will then be submitted and reviewed. Once it is approved, it will be uploaded into MEDPROS and a copy sent to you. If your civilian medical provider is not sure how to proceed, you can speak with the medical folks on your next SRP or you can contact LHI MSG Private RallyPoint Member Wed, 04 Sep 2019 12:28:30 -0400 2019-09-04T12:28:30-04:00 Response by CPT Lawrence Cable made Sep 4 at 2019 12:55 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-could-someone-can-a-permanent-profile-to-walk-the-pt-test-instead-of-run?n=4990159&urlhash=4990159

There are actually three alternate events, four if you count the bikes separate, that you can do for the run if you are profiled. Walk, stationary bike or bike, or swimming. However, you keep running on an injury. STOP! You are doing more damage. When was the last time you took a P.T. Test? If you have an open LOD, who is your POC for that. Also, you may want to look at the regulations, if you need repeated surgery (three is considered repeated) that does not meet the standard, and you should be discharged. When you had the LOD, you should of went to the doctor at that time, where is that paperwork? You need it to start your profile. Who is your medical NCO? Who is your Unit Administrator. If your FLL is not giving you the information you need, go up the chain. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE DAY OF THE P.T. TEST... There are hardly any circumstances that allow for 'permanent profiles' or anything that prevents worldwide readiness. Even less so for younger people. There is zero shame in a medical discharge --and plenty of opportunities for compensation via the VA. Sorry about your knees. I believe permanent profiles you be completely worthless for 11Bs or any Combat Arms MOS. Get on a Temp profile and rehab your knee. If after a year it doesn’t improve then just medically discharge. Make sure you have all your medical records with you at all times, make copies. Make them help you! You should have no problem with getting a walking profile after all the surgeries that you've had. You will have to go through a physical exam before you are issued a profile, but during that time a doctor should give you a temporary one. Be patient, it will take a few months for a final decision. Ensure all documentation from any medical services conducted off post are also included in there as well. ( I had to see Ortho off post at ft Riley). Once a P2 is given every 5 yes it has to be renewed. Walking is the most done alt event as it doesn't need anything else.

Keep in mind with the new ACFT AMEDD hasn't come up with a new profile system as it would relate to the test. No running may also preclude you from sprinting as well. That is 2 events there with one being a drag and carry event as well.

I would also consider reclass because it will only get worse. Weight and constant walking will still take a toll on your knees.

Good luck SFC Private RallyPoint Member Tue, 10 Sep 2019 10:14:57 -0400 2019-09-10T10:14:57-04:00 Response by SPC Mark Maestas made Sep 10 at 2019 12:27 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-could-someone-can-a-permanent-profile-to-walk-the-pt-test-instead-of-run?n=5010535&urlhash=5010535

The only one I saw was in 24 ID, he was the most highly decorated man on base, he was a door gunner, got shot down in Laos and carried out the only other survivor.
