How do Chaplains wear Branch Insignia on the ASU SS/LS shirt with awards? 670-1 says branch insignia is worn centered over left pocket.

That is curious because Chaplains wear their Branch Insignia right side of the black pullover sweater (over the name plate) instead of DUI/Regimental affiliation. Paragraph 21-12 is specific that they wear it over their left pocket on the Service Shirt. I am trying to remember if I ever saw a chaplain wearing ribbons on a shirt or not.

If I remember correctly, I believe the ribbons and special skills badges are worn on the left side, 1/8" from the top of the pocket and 1/8" from the ribbons, respectively. The branch affiliation is worn 1/8" from the top of the pocket on the right side above the name tag. If there are citation ribbons, the branch affiliation is worn above it. I believe they are displayed as they would be on the dress green jacket.

The illustration is for the green shirt that replaced the taupe tan shirt with the greens. When these shirts came out, it was said that the chaplain insignia was the only the thing that the shirt could bear. Later on, they got another contractor to make them and the material would hold every thing the khaki/TW shirt could hold.

The Chaplain Insignia would be worn 1/2 inch above their service ribbons the same as any other functional device such as jump wings, CIB etc.

We wore them as per 670-1 centered above ribbons and skill badges (I had an EIB from my prior service, but, the cross went above it). Tab and wings were below the ribbons. We Chaplains are different (e.g., we wear Chaplain insignia instead of rank on our headgear).- CH (COL) Gil Richardson (ret)
