How do i become a paramedic without going through the army?

I tried to go through the army for the certification but it gets denied. I just want the certification I don’t want to go through flight or sof.

Paramedic is a two year degree or shorter cert in most states. Pull up the internet and search Paramedic programs in your area. Then use your TA to pay for it

Think long and hard about WHY you want the certification. If your goal is simply to obtain employment post military or put a "feather in your cap", then EMS is most likely NOT for you. On the other hand, if you have a genuine desire to help those who are sick or injured. then by all means continue to pursue your goal. EMS can be a very rewarding career or it can be Hell come to Earth depending on why you chose to do it.

In TN, you'd need to first obtain your EMT-Basic and then EMT- Advanced licenses before you can apply for Paramedic training. I "think" GA is similar. There should be several colleges around you that offer the training. The link Lt Col Charlie Brown posted has some great information regarding requirements. SOME states (TN being one of them) will allow you to progress from EMT-B, AEMT, and then into Paramedic without having actually worked for an EMS agency. I don't recommend that path as the experience you'll gain working a truck will be of great advantage when demonstrating advanced skills (knowing how is important but knowing WHY is critical!).

Contact your nearest publicly owned ambulance authority or volunteer fire and rescue. They may even have a way to fund you. If state has "Medical First Responders," EMT-Basic, or EMT-specialists certifications, you may be able to get a taste before you go through the time and expense of an EMT-paramedic.

I noted you are a combat medic. Maybe you've seen action. Maybe you haven't. But you may find that EMT is not for you. About half the Paramedics in my class didn't recertify after 2 years. It is really emotionally draining when it's a bloody tragedy with victims from 0-100, who didn't sign up to be in a dangerous environment.

I almost quit when a friend of my daughter, someone close to my family, died of an overdose. I kept doing CPR until the other EMT's physically pulled off. And there was a fight to restrain me. I was unfit for duty for about a week. After that drug overdoses were always my hard runs. I and do them but I'm shitty company for a few days after.

I'm not sure what you mean by "denied". I'm currently stationed at fort bliss and the Army has a program once a year to send about 20ish medics to the local college full time for about 6 months monday-friday. I was lucky enough to be on of the 20 last year. I had to put a packet together and worked with the Divisions flight surgeon SNCO. Took about 3 months to get approved. Obviously there are not a lot of opportunities to do that. But if you utilize your tuition assistance for credentialing under the army's COOL program. You can basically attend any civilian paramedic program offered in you area on you own time. Night/weekend school etc. There are a few programs that allow you to do all the book work and tests online at your own pace and then they set up, your clinical hours with a local emergency room and ambulance company. Working at your own pace allows you to work around your army schedule but you miss a lot of that direct interaction with a knowledgeable instructor.

PERCOM is an online program but I believe they are Texas/New Mexico specific.

If your active duty the mystic or the place you do table 8 would be a place to go they will also assist with recert after or go to your bases School assistance and they can sign you up if there’s schools nearby if your schedule allows for it some schools allow everything online up until your clinicals and your tables or finals just depends on your commander , schools around you and your availability
