How do I determine the drill pay for a new LT who has prior service? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-do-i-determine-the-drill-pay-for-a-new-lt-who-has-prior-service

Good morning, would appreciate any input in regards to drill pay for a new LT.

If you have prior enlisted service of 1 year as active duty and 5 years in the reserves, so a total of 6 years of service, would you still get paid as a O1 with 0 years of service?

To my understanding, it is technically not enough for O1-E(1460 retirement points or 4 years of active duty.

Or would finance calculate it as O1 but with 6 years of service? It'd be a shame not to be recognized for the 6 years.

Thanks again! It goes by total time in service. So if a SM had 6 years TIS, they would get that pay step, on up to the maximum step allowed for their pay grade. SSG Brian G. I was a Captain before I ever hit a pay grade that I could get a TIS raise. If the Soldier has 6 years in, he will max out on every rank when he promotes until Major. There is a point rule that states if they have 1460 total retirement points, they also qualify for O1-E. If he did a lot of schools or extra duty, with the points for his active year, maybe, but that would be a stretch. Best part for me was my Time in Service Pay cap was higher O3E Cap is over 18 years.
Looking at the 2018 pay chart an O3 has a cap at over 14 years Time In Service maximum monthly pay for O3 is $6,741.49. An O3E has the TIS pay cap at over 18 years, maximum monthly pay $7,194.72 . CPT Scott Batz Sat, 16 Nov 2019 09:19:31 -0500 2019-11-16T09:19:31-05:00 2019-11-15T06:07:47-05:00
