How do I find out all the "B" C/T/B names within III Corps?

I'm in the process of renaming my Company, but it must be different from every other "B" Company/Troop/Battery within III Corps. Anyone know the best way to find out which already exist? Is there a website? I had no luck on III Corps' website or Army History websites. Thanks!

III Corps has a historian. We had to coordinate with them when 4th Sustainment Brigade moved under 1st Cavalry Division and absorbed the lineage of 15th Sustainment Brigade. The historian might have information down to the company level.

When we reactivated our "C" company, Cobras! we physically went to G1, found out what they had as official call signs on record and then cross referenced that with the Signals folks. To say it was anything short of a pain would be lying but it turned out well. (the name was chosen by the CO/1SG and troops) They had a painting of a Cobra and the Co and 1SG had coins made for the plank holders, they did a very nice job of using it as a moral booster.

What, what, what...? The concept of naming a company is new to me. In the Marines, 1st Battalions had Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta. 2nd Battalions had Echo, Fox, Golf and Hotel, 3rd Battalions had India, Kilo, Lima, and Mike. Didn't matter what Regiment. (Delta, Hotel, and Mike were all decommissioned sometime before I got in and none of us was secure enough in our masculinity to be in Juliette Company). Is it just that we don't have as good a memory as you dog soldiers or are we less flashy since we don't have near as many choices what "hat" to wear to formation?

I don't think that data exists in a centralized location. Heraldry wouldn't track that either I don't think.

MAJ Private RallyPoint Member To the best of my knowledge, III Corps has no naming convention for units, nor official processes.. neither is there a centralized database to search.

As there is no official process (that i know of), what or who is mandating "it must be different from every other "B" Company/Troop/Battery within III Corps" Is that a III Corps Memo? If so, signed by who, dated when?

Probably easier to call them. It is just III Corps. Trawl the websites first. Be advised that each company commander can just change unless enumerated by the Army History Center or TIOH

Just please..... no more "Bulldogs"! There are millions of Military "Bulldog" companies, troops, batteries, etc. (as is Cobras and Headhunters)

Many years ago, I had a First Sergeant from Wisconsin, and when we re-flagged from E to B Battery, he insisted on "Badgers". It was unique, and I liked it.

The real problem with searching histories, is that they are always changing the names of company-level organizations. That is what I am really against. If you want to keep the real historical integrity of a unit, Keep the Same Name! (even if it is ...[[cringe]] "Bulldogs")

It may be a ploy to prevent you from renaming your company. If it is a new company or you are being ordered to do I understand that a new name is needed. Otherwise, the company will be there long after you and I don't recommend changing it.

in 3 Bn of the 1st SF Group . the Bn Cdr. did the same

Is there an existing Bravo C/T/B that you could make contact with Sir? Their CO might be able to give you details on who is named what. I would suggest trying to hold to the history of the unit if at all possible with the name of your company Sir.

I'm still trying to find information on my Company/Battalion, it changed from an HHD to an HHC and from a CSB to a CSSB so... It's been a chore.

Check out each subordinate units homepage. 1st Cav, for instance, go to each BDE page. That'll link you with the BNs. From there hit up each company. It's gonna be some work Sir but I think it's well worth it.

Here until recently (2015) we had "Balls of the Eagle" (field artillery) and everyone was proud of that name. Even our reenlistment items said "STAY BALLS" Since that time they have changed the unit to another unit and are now called PROUD AMERICANS.
