How do I get a slot for air assault/airborne school as a reserve soldier?

Best way? Turn in your conditional release and go active. Otherwise, unless your unit is authorized those slots (yours is not) you won't be going.

The reserves have very few slots, and only the best of the best will get those slots. I spent 23 years in the Reserves, and only meet one reservist who ever got a slot.

Is up to your unit if they are willing to spend the funds, unless your unit MTOE authorized positions... and have the available funds!

1. Your unit must either have a slot for this, or you have to convince them to spend the money to send you. It is free, the unit has to ante up.

Join one of the reserve airborne units. Multiple CAPOC units are airborne along with rigger units. Airborne units are also authorized pathfinders which generally get air assault slot. This will require you reclassify to a new MOS

Never if you’re in the Reserves unless you win soldier of the year for the whole entire Reserves... it’s just easier to go Active and get the schools you want.

If your mind is really set on doing one or both of these schools, I agree with the others about going active duty. Think of it this way, who do you think the army would rather train for these schools? Full-time soldiers who eat, live and breathe the army life? Or part-time soldiers who are balancing a civilian job with their army duties?

Join a Civil Affairs Airborne unit or you can join Advanced ROTC if you are in college.

Finish out your obligation with the Reserve and then find a Guard unit with a slot. Sometimes its offered as a reenlistment incentive.

Not sure it is still policy, but if you do an individual MOB to an airborne unit (82nd or 101st) for at least 6 months, they'll let you get your wings.

Seems like The Guard revives far more slots for schools then the Reserves. A Mechanized Infantry Battalion in the Montana Guard received about 30 slots. Thanks to quality train-up they all passed.
