One of my soldiers arrived to my unit last January. August 2019 she was promoted to PFC for performance in AIT. When she arrived to my unit she realized she was still receiving PV2 pay, so in AIT they never processed her promotion but she did come to our unit with the promotion paperwork. She got promoted automatically to PFC in January. Is there any way she can get her DOR corrected and get that back pay or she’s out of luck? Any guidance will be appreciated!

This is a really easy fix, but since it spans fiscal years will require an extra step for them.
I have to say, what I am having trouble getting my head around here is that we are just getting around to fixing this now, when it is nearly a full year later.

That was my thoughts. What is going on in this chain of command that they couldn't fix this when she got there? Unless she didn't tell anyone. I've seen that happen more than once.

LTC (Join to see) - Officers are a different beast and sadly multi-month or even multi-year back pays happen quite a bit for field grade officers.

I like all responses; this is 12 months delay for a soldier and that is unacceptable.

Fill out a DA Form 4187 for DOR Update. Get all approvals and submit thru AHRD for DFAS. Don't delay the process any further, please. Thanks.

SFC (Join to see) - I wish I had talked to you about this seven years ago... the even with my 4187 showing a backdate for my rank, I was told it couldn't be fixed. Thus my rank officially went from PV1 to SPC.

SPC Elijah J. Henry, MBA there are a lot of things like this I wish I had known as an E4. I had my promotion to SGT delayed by 9 months because the BDE S1 NCOIC, a SGM 42A, refused to accept that the reg stated Rangers were granted 799 promotion points for promotion. She “interpreted” it as only Soldiers currently assigned to the 75th.

As a S1 Personnel, I have trouble understanding why it took twelve months. Every month the S1 provide monthly reports to the units, one of the reports is a AAA-117. Every Soldier from E-1 through E-4 is on this roster and information regarding promotion is as well. So if she was suppose to be an E-3 I don’t understand how this was missed because on the monthly report it would show her current rank and her eligibility for the next rank and it is reviewed by the 1SG and Company Commander and signed by the Commander.

Secondly, I wouldn’t process the “4187” she has without verifying the information from the previous command. Far tooooooo many times I’ve had people trying to submit fraudulent documentation, which is one of the reasons why E-4/E-5 promotable no longer carry promotion packets, everything is system driven. SPC (Join to see) - your NCO isn't telling the truth. You can always process back pay etc. Sounds like they either don't know, or don't want to.

As for how it was missed, if she auto promoted the same time she reported to a new unit it would just say PFC - the commander likely never checked the DOR.
