How do I go about not having to travel 500 miles after getting transferred to a new Reserve unit?

How do I go about not traveling the 500 miles and getting transferred to a new unit without going AWOL of getting an article 15 don’t really have the mo way to travel that far

I can't tell what you're trying to ask. Are you assigned to a unit that's 500 miles away? Whatever the case, you need to speak with your chain of command ASAP.

1. You can always request to RST with another Reserve unit, if your Command will allow it. Talk to your Chain of Command & let them know your situation.

2. Transfer into the IRR, then you can transfer to any other Army Reserve unit or National Guard unit in your state even. You can even deploy from the IRR with a unit that's going oversees if you qualify.

3. The Army reserve provides both the Lodging in Kind Program (LIK) and the IDT Travel Program in DTS, where you can put into receive reimbursement for driving or even renting a car for drill. It might take a couple months to get your money- but if you put it in you will get paid (especially if you're a junior Soldier).

How did you get transferred, I have never heard of a TPU being transferred without consent except for promotion??

According to AR, you could request to go to the IRR. check with Army Regs

How did you get transferred? There are conditional reassignments to new units that often occur with promotions, but I have never heard of that happening with advancements. (There is a difference between advancement and promotion.)

Are you talking about the transfer from your initial training/AIT unit to your Reserve Unit? Your unit assignment would have been determined by your recruiter. I am very confused by this

If your unit no longer carries your mos, you would’ve been given the option to reclassify and stay there. Is part of the problem not wanting to change mos? If so, you may be stuck having to travel

Log onto the HRC portal.
Go to Tools, Vacancy Search and find a unit closer to your house. Even if they don't have an open position, use the contact info and see if they will accept you anyway.

Talk about not taking care of Soldiers. No wonder we have so many leaving our ranks. Who in their right mind would assign a PVT to a unit 500mi away. I am assuming that you are coming into the Reserves as a supplemental income to make money. Not spend it.
To the young PVT...
Are you right out of BCT/AIT? Was this a part of your contract? Too many variables to make an accurate judgement based on the title of your post. Please CLARIFY so we can better assist.

Get ahold of your UA and see what other Reserve centers are near you. Then request to drill with them and their UA will let your UA that you drilled and your UA will code you in the RLAS system for pay and put on their signature roster that you have drilled with another Unit and you should be good to go.

Who have you spoken with?
What have you been told?
Maybe answering those can get you a more direct answer.

If an air base is close to you check and see if they fly to the other location. We use to have guys coming over from JBLM to Fairchild. They also went the other way for units on the coast for weekend drills. Just a thought if feasible.
