NRA might have a page to help you find this out. If you are married, you should have a choice to live on or off post, I would recommend off. It is my understanding, if you reside on post you have to disclose everything you have when moving in. When you get to station, I recommend at the least putting your family and weapons in an off post hotel even if it costs you. If that is not something you want to pay, I would reconsider what you take. I also recommend you edit your post to "I have firearms to PCS with" and take out the large collection and specific weapons. Basically, you have to notify the PMO of your firearms, get them registered, and then you have to keep them locked up in the arms room until you leave New York. You also can’t leave with your guns. You have to have them shipped to an FFL and have that FFL ship it to an out of state FFL where you pick them up. It’s honestly not worth it, unless you really just like looking at the case you keep your guns in through a locked cage in an arms vault for several years. One: nys laws DO apply on post in regards to compliance, two: if you bring handguns of any sort with out a nys pistol permit they will be locked at the mwr or unit ar until you have such permit. You cannot utilize them at the range either according to the mwr you can however go in and clean them so you get some supervised visitation so you got that going for ya which is nice. Also should be noted that was the opposite information from the pmo's answer yet I feel the range personnel are more up to speed on this subject.
