I've seen the news. As per President Trump's order to the Navy, I have to wonder (sadly I can't trust news reporting). Did he order the Navy to sink Iranian boats acting aggressively or did he give Naval commanders permission to fire if the Iranian boats act aggressively. There's a difference that news reporters seem inclined to interpret in what they perceive to be the worst possible light for the President. For those of us who sail, we know that even in US waters we stand off at least 2,000 yards away from warships. If we get too close, we are inviting a polite but firm reminder to move away. Given our history with the Iranians, I consider the President's decision to be quite reasonable. Remember, it was a small fiberglass that blew a hole in the USS. Furthermore, even a shoulder fired RPG can penetrate a destroyer or cruiser hull and, if it finds its way to a critical system, can cause great damage and death.
As to Tebran's military satellite, it's not unexpected. They were given a jump start on the technology by the Koreans and Chinese (possibly French and Russians too). "Military" satellite can mean a lot of things. Communications. Surveillance. Mapping. Etc. None of which are overly troubling inasmuch as it's reasonable to expect that their technology will be very crude. I have great doubts that they could deploy a satellite with any great degree of maneuverability in orbit and thus, a killer satellite is something I would be hard pressed to imagine.

CPT Jack Durish
SGT Herbert Bollum - Sounds to me like he's giving them discretion "...if they harass our ships at sea". And yes, the phrasing "...shoot down..." is awkward. But we didn't hire President Trump for his eloquence.

I'm thinking the President of the United States has more information that I do. Think I'll let this play out before judging one way or the other.
