SSG Private RallyPoint Member 3253384 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div> How do promotions work in the Army Reserves? Also how long would it take someone coming off active duty to get promoted to SSG? 2018-01-13T13:00:56-05:00 SSG Private RallyPoint Member 3253384 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div> How do promotions work in the Army Reserves? You will submit a packet through your CoC. BN S1 compiles the approved packets and conducts the board. Note you will not attend a physical board. Available positions are based on mileage you are willing to travel to drill from your home of record. For my E5 board, another soldier got promoted because she was willing to travel a farther distance ... it was 10mi farther than I said I was willing to travel. Moral of the story, points aren’t as important in the reserves, but be ready to put down 250mi on your preference if you are in a competitive MOS and looking for a difficult to come by spot.
