How do those who ETS'd at the end of 2012 feel about the new "Forever G.I. Bill" stipulated ETS date?

My ETS date was December 29, 2012 and these benefits only affect those who exit service from Jan. 1, 2013. I understand their has to be a beginning, but how does this affect others with similar situations?

If it helps at all, you still got the benefits your were promised when you signed up, possibly more as the bennies were being adjusted almost every year. See Matthew 20:1-16
The other option would be to re-up and reset your entitlement to the life-time benefit.
1-800-Go-Guard!!!
I was actually surprised this was backdated at all, most changes start the date of enactment with no retroactive application.

That is very true sir, certainly adds context to the changes showing just how monumental this new policy is.

My AD ETS date was 3 days prior to yours, so I did answer your poll question from that perspective; however, it isn't a negative factor for me as I am currently using my benefits now. For those of us in the 15 year window and not eligible for the new eligibility, time is not up--unless you are almost through the window--so its alright.

This is true and I completely understand that regard, but just to be in that generation of Vet that kind of has to game plan their education and career path as opposed to the ability to take your time and just let life happen. Not a true complaint, just curious how folks felt.

SGT Josheua Cooke - I couldn't help but shake my head and chuckle a bit at how close to the cutoff date I was!

The new G.I. Bill for those ETS'ing on or after Jan. 1, 2013 grants the G.I. Bill an indefinite amount of time in order to be used replacing the 15 year limitation. Also adds a scholarship for an extra year for Hard science degree programs that require 4 or more years. A number of other survivor and purple hear benefits are also included.

Trump signed the ‘Forever GI Bill.’ Here are 11 things you should know.
President Trump has just put his signature on a new law that will bring significant changes to education benefits for service members, veterans and their families. The legislation known as the “Forever GI Bill” garnered strong bipartisan support in Congress, passing unanimously in both the House and Senate.

At least from what I understand it the forever GI Bill is supposed to apply to those service members that ETS after this date. I'm hoping I'm wrong though
