You’ve got to become a Soldier before you get leaves and passes. You will get one weekend where you will get to be with the family which is in like week 11 or so and then the day before you graduate you’ll get another family pass. You'll get a family day weekend when you pass the first 10 weeks of Basic training. They sometimes give you your phone for a few minutes if you beat other platoons in competitions such as RM and PT scores but it is never guaranteed. It helps to just accept that you don't have a lot of freedom there but it is temporary and it is definitely worth it to stick it out. Good luck! If your entire Company is perfect you may get a few more hours. However, you need to focus on learning the foundations of your craft while becoming as fit as the training window allows. You could go from OSUT to combat, and simply arriving at your unit will be taxing enough as your NCOs will test your grit. Focus on the learning and don’t worry about time off this is real, not a starter job at any Corp. If you are among the best, you might be Family Week-end off, if you are in the pits, then that would disappear. You are there to train, and frankly OSUT will only give you the basics. Your 1st duty unit will spend almost 6mo. training you up to their standards. Response by SGM Bill Frazer made Aug 13 at 2018 2:29 PM 2018-08-13T14:29:16-04:00 2018-08-13T14:29:16-04:00 SPC Elijah J.
