How do you Become a 38G CA Functional Specialist?

If you are not aware, there is a new specialty branch being formed in Civil Affairs called 38G Functional Specialist. These MTOE slots will be reserved for those of us with civilian education and experience to perform professional skills in a combat zone. Boards are being held quarterly on 17 Feb, 18 May, and 17 Aug of FY16. Details are in MILPER message 15-403. What are your questions?

Sir, Thank you where can I get more information on the 38G, I am now medically retired but know of individuals with the educations and experience that are thinking about joining; there are a few here that I have advice to look into CA.

Sir I'm a 38A will this new branch include those that are already CA. I'm a current educator with a Ph.D.

Sir, I'm interested in possibly pursuing 38G (public health/public safety). I do not have access to MILPER 150-403 as I'm currently in civilian status. May I ask your assistance in obtaining more information?

Sir,

What is the distinction between 38A and 38G (officer).
I understand they follow 2 different paths.
As far as deployments, are there any preferences or restrictions for one or the other??

I currently have a finance background.

Sir, I'm a 38A and took a bonus recently, will I have to lose the bonus to make the switch to 38G? I am interested in public education. I already have the ASI, Ph.D. In education and I'm an assistant principal at a high school.

I was looking into this and I'm closest to two 38G AOCs-6E: Civilian Supply Officer and 6H: Public Safety Officer can I put in for both in one board? How would I do that- two packets?

Is there still a discussion of opening this up to civilians as a direct commission? I would be very interested in Cultural Heritage Preservation. I have a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science in Anthropology, and will hopefully begin working on my PhD in 2018. I also have a background working as a historic researcher at a university, and I have federal law enforcement training (National Park Service).

Sir, Very interested in obtaining the 38G ASI. Now a LTC, I completed CAOAC in 1999, have deployed with CA to OEF-AF and have a UT Austin MBA with 10+ years experience in economics as well as significant experience in transportation management. I am very interested in the 38G 6D MOS for I have an extensive background in public education (14yrs). Also can someone please share some insight about a DA or WOC for this same MOS. Finally is there a current POC for the above mentioned MOS? Thank you
