This very recently passed legislation mandates "universal background checks" in the state of Washington. It prohibits the sale or transfer (transfer being very broadly defined as any time you hand off your weapon to another person with very few, very specific, exceptions) without a background check. This includes going to the range and letting your buddy use your weapon, even just to hold it. This also concerns me because it affects a lot of servicemembers, especially single SMs who have POWs. This is because it would require you to submit a background check for your unit armorer EVERY TIME you stored your weapon in the arms room. Depending on how the court interprets it, it could also require a check to retrieve your firearm. I am personally very concerned about the constant attempts (some, like this one, successful) to curb and eventually eliminate Constitutionally recognized and protected rights.

"Shall not be infringed"

Never will understand how that is misinterpreted. Sad

People will always try to twist even the simplest phrase to suit their agenda. That's why I'm all for a strict interpretation of the Constitution. I believe the Founders actually meant what they said. Imagine that =/

SGT (Join to see), I-594 penalizes and infringes upon the Constitutional rights of law abiding citizens, it does nothing to stop criminals. There has never been a legal mass shooting in a school. Many laws were broken in each event. The Marysville, WA shooting is tragic, however it was done with a legally registered gun and the owner background checked. I -594 was poorly written, its a burden on families and law abiding citizens.

I remind everyone, that per existing law in the State of Washington, it is illegal for a minor (under 18) to posses a handgun. It is illegal to pre-plan to do bodily injury to another human being, it is illegal to harm another human being except in self defense and then only if there is a real, and imminent threat of personal harm can one respond with force to stop the threat. It is illegal to assault, or murder another human being. None of these laws stopped the Marysville, Washington tragic shooting of four schoolmates done by a 14 year old boy, who it appears was distraught over a girlfriend.

Politicians, the rich, never let a tragedy go to waste! Political agendas from those who have no respect for their oath of office make me sick! Gun control is not about guns, it is about controlling people. If you're not willing to fight for what you believe, don't cry for what you lose.

I am vehement in my opinion that the Constitution and the Second Amendment are nonpartisan. I don't give a $%^ what party you are with, when elected you take an oath to protect the Constitution! party lines be damned and I will take issue with any politician that doesn't keep his oath. But rest assured, the day will come when someone will try to take something I hold near & dear to me and when they do, they'll face a crotchety old mexican grizzly. May whatever god they believe in, have mercy on their soul as I tear it from the from them. This is non-negotiable.

Edit: My apologies if this is to impassionate for some.

I blame the incredibly misleading ad campaigns for this tragedy of government. I like to believe people aren't (normally) so stupid as to vote away rights.

I am actually quite appalled about the responses I've gotten from fellow servicemembers who SUPPORT this law. When we joined we swore an oath to uphold the CONSTITUTION. How can any of us support any law that curtails freedoms, ESPECIALLY those laid out in the Constitution as to "NOT BE INFRINGED". "Those who surrender liberty to attain security deserve neither and will lose both" - Benjamin Franklin.

Ignorance is blind to fact. There in lies the problem with a generation (you are excluded) that cares not the outcome, just screw us and themselves. What a world we live in.

People for some reason trust politicians to look out for them. I was raised to not trust strangers or politicians, and to always earn what I have. After all, how can you appreciate what you didn't earn? And that it what I feel the biggest problem with my generation is: the sense of entitlement and unwillingness to fight. "Those who stand for nothing will fall for anything" -can't remember who said it, I want to say MLK JR.
