They tend to pay an ok wage while you look for something more suitable to your skill set. Grocery stores typically need people who bag groceries or stock shelves. Department stores are usually looking for people as well. Take note of what businesses in your area are open and check out their websites to see if they are accepting applications. Try networking as well, do you have family or friends in your area that can be on the look out? Have you reached your ETS or are you still in where you have time to look? That way you at least have some opportunities which may come your way to help your decisions in what career path you decide to take. Make sure you have documents which can verify your expertise which can sometimes be the final decision for employers when it comes to hiring. Also, you want to look at the area you plan on living job markets to see what you're competing with.

One more thing, make absolutely sure this is what you want to do. I've seen and heard many soldiers both good ones and "dud rounds" realized once they're back in the civilian world they wished they would've stayed in. The first thing I did was saved up my leave time to where I had 58 days of terminal leave. This ensured that when I got back home, I was still getting paid. Money earned on the savings is. I recommend you do two things. 1. research unemployment for the state you are living in and border states. See if you are eligible. Do not file for unemployment until you research first. Some states have a one year waiting clause for people leaving the service, some do not. 2. contact a temp agency and take whatever they give you. Contact several agencies. They specialize is different fields. Plus, if one of the "counselors" doesn't care for you they will never refer you to a job. This makes multiple contacts necessary. 3. Really should be part of item 1. Contact your state employment agency. Good luck.
