If I want the horses in the barn, I put some grain in a bucket and stand at the door and shake it. If I want the pigs back in the pen, I grab some leftovers and put them in the slop pan. The pigs will follow me anywhere. If I want the barn cats away from me, I squirt them with a squirt gun.Response by MSG Pat Colby made Aug 18 at 2016 1:14 PM2016-08-18T13:14:19-04:002016-08-18T13:14:19-04:00PO1 Richard Cormier1816785

Same way you should do in Military. By example. You can force, coerce, threaten, etc. but that only works for a very short time and gets the people to feel bitter and resentful.

Share praise, keep ass chewing private. Own the process with the workers, even if you did it by yourself. For me a leader is a person who is able to bring different minds together for a common goal. That common goal is usual the vision of a leader. Just because you are at a leader position does not make you a leader. So you can definitely lead in civilian life.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 18 at 2016 2:57 PM2016-08-18T14:57:14-04:002016-08-18T14:57:14-04:00CPL Anthony Slaughter1817418

By example. I have senior management that I am in conflict with and I occasionally run into a thin skinned THS employee... I try to remember they didn't do what I did and so it's not fair to hold them to that standard. I find it difficult at times, irritating, and at times when I know that we accomplished our tasks, pride in them.

I think I'm going to find employment elsewhere though, something not in management...
