It is possible to progress much faster in a short period of time.

the drawback is that some courses require a Hands-On, especially in technical field so a combination of both types of learning can be helpful.

An apprenticeship program where you are working while you are learning might be the most effective stratagy for you. There were some subjects, history and philosophy which I learned better by reading the material and not having a lot of interactions with other students regularly. However, I did a statistics course online and that was a terrible decision. I'm terrible at math and it just made it worse.

I now work with a more advanced online program that includes live face-to-face sessions. So, its the best of online and online. You have some discussion time, but your lectures are pre-recorded and you can watch them over and over again if you need to do so. There is enough self-guidance and support to succeed all around.

What sort of degree are you looking to do? And when I was an undergrad, there was no such thing as "online" learning. Probably why I just don't think its something I'd be comfortable with, which is funny, because my grad program is one of the top ranked part time programs in the country for flexibility, and that's in no small part to it's online capabilities. You have an opportunity to match what course work needs hands on interaction with the instructor and what course work you are proficient with and only needs a question answered through email. Though I personally lean fully towards online learning due to flexibility, a combination model usually proves the most effective for absorbing the material being taught.
That being said, I don't know where you are in your journey, but WGU is a fully online university that offers different degrees. They have the same accredation as UC Berkeley, SJSU, and most state/public universities. They're learning model is totally flexible allowing you to learn at your own pace and possibly graduate in 6-12 months (again depending on where you are). I'll be starting there in December.
