How do you look up your units UIC if its unknown?

In a recent issue that I've encountered, not mine but a fellow NCO, the question came up of "what is our units UIC?"  Now past experience tells me I can go to other fellow NCO's, senior NCO's, S-1 and even the internet to research it, but where does the UIC stem from and how would one go about looking it up just in case trust is an issue?  Second question, what UIC is used on an NCOER, the company's or battalion?

UIC is normally based on the supply chain, any supply NCO knows what the unit UIC is.

FMS Web, will tell you everything you need to know about a unit. MTOE, authorizations etc.

How does one find or where does one go to find the UIC for a decommissioned submarine. I need the UIC for the USS Minneapolis-St. Paul (SSN-708) which served from 1984 through 28 August 2008 to obtain muster reports from NARA (National Archives). NARA tells me I need the UIC. Thanks,

If you want some light bathroom reading, DA Pam 220-1 (dated Nov 2011 though) Chapter 15-2 gives you the breakdown of how your UIC is created. SAMAS code book (July 2018) too if you really want to get your noodle confused.

Look on your transfer orders. It should also be on your HRC Website showing all your units that you belong to and case you don't have your ARB handy.

Guarantee your O-Room, XO, S1, 1SG, CO all have it memorized. Your PL nd PSG should have it at their fingertips. It is likely on your SRB and maybe even your NCOER, but I have been out for a while so I won't say definitely.
