You had the best squad, platoon, company or battalion and now key personnel have departed and you are "stuck" with the new guys! What do you do to regain the edge that you had and recapture the excellence and synergy that made your team great?

SFC George Smith trust may be the single most important element of our combat and military teams. Great point!

You have to start all over. You have to have your veterans help you train the new guys. You have to work on combat skills over and over. You have to drill until it becomes second nature. You have to make the new cherries feel like there apart of the team. On patrolling you have to let them have turns pulling point, doing the land navigation, keep pace count and sometimes let the run a squad. You the leader will get frustrated but you can let them see that because they will feel like they are constantly messing up and can't get things right. Don't baby them by no means. They have to understand the mission and know that the team is family and you have to watch each other's back at all time. They have o be willing to take a bullet from anyone in that family like they would take a bullet for them. I know cause I have had to train up a new squad before and I use all types of training. The best training I learned is when I was stationed at Ft Bragg and participate in Robin Sage with SF I did that twice and learned some very good lessons and allot of what not to do as well. Hand singles and learning to cross danger areas is something I loved to teach and also land nav. If I can be of any help let me know.

SSG Leo Bell great answer! And quite frankly you have to be prepared to do it all over again when the team changes its dynamic in six months!!
