How do you see Stolen Valor, when it's not for profit or gain, but just so they know how it feels to step into the uniform?

If they want to know how it feels to put on that uniform....then they need to join so they know what it feels like to wear it when they EARN the right to wear it.

I still see it as an insult. Putting on the uniform and being issued that uniform are 2 different things. No amount of rummaging through the Salvation Army's used clothing section will give you the feeling of the blood sweat and tears that have been shed wearing that uniform.

-A couple times a year the post sponsors teachers and community leaders and puts them in uniform. They run them through the obstacle course, ranges and a couple other events. In cases like that I don't see anything wrong with dressing them up and loading them down in gear. I think it builds empathy in the folks who participate and helps connect them with the troops.
-Kids playing Army in dad and uncle bobs uniforms don't bother me either. They are emulating their heroes and are proud to tell you they have dad and uncle bobs stuff.
-Adult roaming around with every medal known to man and no service or misrepresenting their contributions, trying to get free coffee and discounts, Yep my hemorrhoids flare up and I get a case of chapped ass.
