How does airborne affect your MOS or career? Will going airborne somehow affect the kind of work I do as a 25P? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-does-airborne-affect-your-mos-or-career-will-going-airborne-somehow-affect-the-kind-of-work-i-do-as-a-25p <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I am currently in AIT, and our MOS has received a major overhaul on the training side of things. Because apparently the training was severely outdated. From what I&#39;ve been told a 25P works on networking, being airborne would change that? would it add to it? would it just be the same? would I deploy more or less? So many questions, a positive attitude for a newbie like me would be appreciated. Thu, 07 Dec 2017 15:13:03 -0500 How does airborne affect your MOS or career? In my day requesting Airborne school by people not in Airborne units was very difficult to get -even for NCOs that have been in for several years. Graduating Airborne school will add a ASI (additional skill identifier) to your MOS, making you eligible for Airborne units (it&#39;s not a requirement tho). Career-wise this opens up doors to other types of units, meaning different types of responsibilities or opportunities for your MOS. Being in a Airborne unit comes with higher standards and a different mindset. It&#39;s that experience that makes you stand out, not your jump wings. Otherwise you&#39;ll just be a 5 jump chump in a leg unit doing some kind of tech stuff. Also, 25P sounds like a obscure MOS that may not deploy as much as everyone else -even with jump wings. Before you go chasing rainbows, sit down and really think about what you want. It sounds like you want to reclass to another MOS, which at this point may be too late. Like being Infantry as opposed to Airborne Infantry its how you are utilized. Overall however being Airborne gives you an advantage over peers when it comes time for promotion. It is and will continue to be a skill looked highly upon by the Army. Deploying and things of that nature are all about your unit and when its their time to go, but if your assigned to an Airborne unit you can likely expect deployment though you wont be jumping into country. Are you going to jump school after AIT? That’s the way to go if you can get it. If you’re going ABN focus on passing ABN school (physically &amp; mentally). If you’re just considering it think about this. Are you ready for more? More in the Army always come with more of everything (good &amp; bad) but more is better. Take as many challenges on as you can handle. Airborne units generally do more with much less so there will be plenty of work for you in and out of your MOS. If you can’t get an Airborne slot while in AIT ask to get assigned to Bragg and sooner than later you should have a very good chance of getting an Airborne slot. Good luck! CW4 Angel C. Yes it will affect your career. By accepting the training you incur a 36 month obligation to serve on status in an airborne unit. In addition to that it will affect follow on assignments as Branch Managers are usually quite lazy and don’t do actual talent management. You don&#39;t have to have it to do your job unless it is a requirement for your job or your gaining unit. Example RANGER RGT. Last I remember everyone is airborne qualified. Take that cook and put him in 1bde 25th ID and he is a leg. But, still able to do his job. Hope that answers your question.
