However, i'd like to manage my expectations. I've been told by two Navy recruiters that deployments are volunteer only. How true is that? Ill be joining as a Seabee.

Thanks in advance!
Ben How does deployment work in the navy reserves? 2019-03-06T17:23:09-05:00 Benjamin Pennington 4426012

I realize that potential for deployment is something that comes with joining and I accept that. Although you can volunteer to augment another unit, if your battalion is up for deployment, you will go whether you want to or not. Thankfully, the Navy has opened up a lot more opportunities for Seabee rates in non traditional OF7 units so you will have more options to deploy if you want to.
