How does my military and/or Corpsman experience translate into college credits?

Depending on your current experience, you could get paperwork filled out to send in a receive certificates for medical assistant or other fields. Personally, I was able to get medical assistant and phlebotomy certs. I was a green side corpsman and was able to get OJT in the lab, xray, and audiology departments.
These will get you into a job while you continue your studies. I hope this helps, although I am not studying in the medical field now.

You get the most bang for your buck, from your SMART, if you get an Associate of Science degree concentrating on the health science (Nursing, HCM, HMA). If you go for an Associate of Arts, most of your boot camp and some of your HM credits might translate. You have to check with the school.

Depends on the school. Pull your Jount Service Transcript and that will give you a pretty good breakdown.

Your SMART transcript is a guide line and many of the credits can transfer depending on your chosen degree and school. As an example at might current school I received about 26 hours towards my bio associates. My next school may add to that.

Talk to your student advisor first to find out what the criteria are for submitting applications for credits.

When I went through the process at Roger Williams University, my faculty advisor went through my service record and gave me what credits were obvious. Then He sat me down with the class catalog and told me to go through it and choose courses that I felt I could meet the criteria for, document why and how my experience fit and then submit the documents to the "Life Experience Board."
The Board reviewed my applications and approved or disapproved the requests. If your application is accurate , accurate and concise you have a good chance of receiving the credits.

I had been in the Navy for 10 years and a 1st class HM when I went to college and between CLEP giving me all of my core credits and the "Life Experience Board" and Service Record review, I entered college as a senior so the effort was well worth it.

SIU will go through your military schools/classes and give you as much credit as they can. It will eleminate the amount of civilian classes you will have to take toward your degree. I took classes on base at NAS Coronado, but they have other sites also. Hope this helps.

First, obtain a copy of your most recent JST (Joint Services Transcript) documenting your military training. To do that go here: https://jst.doded.mil/smart/dodMandatoryBannerForm/submit.do.

Second, obtain you DD-214. To do that go here: https://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records.

Third, if you have have college credits already get ALL of those transcripts together to from the schools you attended.

Once you have all three of these locate a METC degree completion program near you (see this link: http://www.metc.mil/degreebridge/). Armed with ALL of this you can now search for programs in nursing and other fields that interest you.

Also, since you are/were USN take a look at the Navy Cool program. Look at the credentials listings based on you NEC. See link (https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/hm.htm). Look to obtain some of these credentials. Don't know if you are working right now, but getting a few of these "civilian" credentials will help you. Many of these are "hot" in demand credentials.
