You need to get your statement of eligibility and then take it to the school you choose. Go to this site and it will walk you through it. http://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill/post911_gibill.asp

Post-9/11 GI Bill - Education and Training

The GI Bill provides education benefits to veterans and their dependents.

Response by TSgt David L. made Apr 27 at 2016 3:08 AM 2016-04-27T03:08:30-04:00 2016-04-27T03:08:30-04:00 CSM Darieus ZaGara 1482055

You submit your request for support the same way. Your account does not change. Each University has VA rep that fully understands the program and what you are specifically authorized under their program. If you have less than 2 years, it is prorated based on that time.

Every "Term," (semester/block/period/whatever) you go back and fill out a new form you go back and fill out a new 20-1995 (I believe I have the form number correct) with the SCHOOL which they submit to the VA which is how they get paid for you attending, and you get paid MHA/Book stipend. The 9/11 is a bit different compared to the Montgomery. With the G/I Bill, it covers 36 months of schooling including BAH based on where the school is located and a $500 book allowance.

The Montgomery covers 36 months. If you were entitled to the Montgomery, there is a portion (I'm vague with this though) that if you use the 36 months the $1,200 you put into it from your first year in the military, it can either be applied to another 12 months or it can be given to you in a check........
PLEASE remember that I don't remember all the info on this and your better bet is to talk with your CoC's Career Counselor or the VA in the Education/Financial department.

Hope this helps.
