I have been on RallyPoint for a few months and have been curious about how the ranking process determines that I am xx out of 310,xxx veterans today. There are many more members who have significantly more Points than I do so I expect there is an algorithm which takes into consideration profile completeness, influence points, and some type of data entry frequency over a period of time. Perhaps there is artificial intelligence to filter out a gathering of chimpanzees keying randomly. I wonder if self promotion reduces our standing or sitting for those of us who are not chimpanzees [2015-07-10 edit - replaced monkeys with chimpanzees after realizing I had insulted the chimps - thanks to SPC Charles Brown for pointing out the error of my ways.]

To see the source of all your points, go to:

https://www.rallypoint.com/influence

Then click on "View my influence score details" to expand and see the source of all your points. You can actually do that for any member. On the desktop site, go to any profile and click on their Influence Score. There is full transparency on how everyone gains their points, which then determines your ranking.

Thank you LTC Yinon Weiss for providing the hyperlinks which are very helpful to anybody who :"clicks" on them. I was trying to kick off this discussion in humorous fashion to draw more RallyPoint members in to learn from those who understand the process.

Oh, I must have cut it off, you also get 100 points each for being the first to upload a group canvas image and/or icon image. The pictures you see in a group discussion or mousing over the discussion topic tabs

MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca, thanks for reminding us. I have uploaded about 20 canvas images and logos over the past couple of months. My biggest issue is right-sizing the dimension of the image for Group canvases.

A few tricks I've learned LTC Stephen F.. If you use pictures larger than the recommended sizes they will generally shrink down to fit the scale then you can crop the picture to fit the space. You can use larger pics as icons too, again they will scale to fit. You just want to insure the pictures are clear when they upload. Some pictures may come fuzzy due to being scaled down. You can add and choose another picture if you don't like the way it looks but you only get credit for the first upload. Some pre-defined groups we don't have the ability to upload, You will get a warning that you have to be an administrator - I'm assuming a level 4 or higher - to update it.

MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca Thanks, I have cropped images and grouped smaller similar-sized images together in Paint Shop to get them to fit - usually with one or two tried. I have been exchanging emails with a support staff member who is going to post the picture I sent for the group canvas which requires sufficient admin privileges.

I think it's a straightforward points system, sir. I haven't seen anything to indicate otherwise.

Thanks CW5 (Join to see), for a straightforward answer. This may not be enough to quash the fears of those dedicated to spreading conspiracy far and wide. :-)
