Political statements aren't to be made in uniform.

If you want to make a statement, do so. But don't be a fucking coward and hide your face. Seriously.

I don't care what your views are. I really don't. You're entitled to Free Speech. You're allowed to Protest. But be grown up enough to live with the consequences of your actions.

You know that you're not allowed to make political statements in uniform, or you wouldn't hide your face. Therefore you're a goddamn coward, and I don't want you wearing my uniform.

For starters, he broke regulations for posting a political statement while in uniform. Other than that, he is not that bright, anyway, buying into the media hype as it were. He willingly signed his name. He volunteered. Suck it up and ruck it up. Go where you are told to go when you are told to go. Some times we may not like the job we have to do, but the job still has to get done. For his own sake and sanity, I do hope he ETS'd.

I just look at these types as the people who joined for the benefits and found out they may have to do something difficult to earn them. Don't get me wrong, joining the service, going through basic, and doing a 4-year enlistment can be hard. I just think people like this didn't acknowledge the fact that they could be forced to serve in combat, even if the mission is against their beliefs. Also, using a uniform is a way to gain validation and make a statement that these people wouldn't initially get.

If he was a civilian, I'd say go ahead, express your opinion all you want.

But he isn't, he's a Soldier who VOLUNTEERED to do this during a time of war, so being deployed should not come as a big surprise. If he doesn't want to do it, then he needs to finish out his contract and get out. But until then, he needs to do what he is being paid to do.

I think this "soldier" should have found a different profession. We are a profession of arms that have sworn to obey the Orders of the President of the United States and the Officers Appointed over us. it is people like that who give the military a bad name.. His statement makes me feel all the better about my service.1st I was NOT drafted, indeed I have a right arm that does not function due to a non reparable fracture to my rt elbow at age 5. I had very little movement at the elbow, so little I actually was prohibited from serving. I was sent a letter from the draft board and from my recruiter.

However I spent 4 m0nths making it looked like I had finally rehabbed
it and even though they spent hrs examining it the intake dr said 'If you think you can do it go get in line. I no longer remember how many times I deceived Drs during training It never came up again till I was medevacked to Walter Reed. By this time it was the fall of 71 and there was no way I was gonna fake my way thru WR. Indeed a Dr gave me 2 weeks convalescent leave and when I returned I was Discharged. I wanted to return to my unit in VN but no way was that going to be allowed so I went home a Vet in 71.

The soldier who held a sign in front his face to hide his id, well I'm glad I never had to depend on someone like you to watch my back. The Military is not a democrccy.IT exists to defend one !!!!

Not a new sentiment... Many Soldiers join, and fail to accept/realize what their oath says. When we were invading Panama, I remember a SSG who lost it, because "they did not join the Army to go to war... they joined for the benefits..." The benefits come with the territory of doing what you are told to do, when and where directed; we don't get a vote. Hopefully that troop was dealt with....

I think this is a great sample of Information Operations, basically a guy in uniform, hiding his face, making a political. Perhaps is part of a PSYOP/IO to see how we react. IF and I say IF this is an actual soldier, they need to take the uniform off and go find a safe place. It isn't about you deciding where you will fight and where you will die...PERIOD. It isn't about fighting Russian or being in the Ukraine...it is about you standing next to the Soldier, Sailor, Airmen, or Marine and taking care of them and them taking care of you and the trust that you have in each other. I'm all for having an opinion. After all, my husband and I fought for the right to free speech. HOWEVER...as a member of the military, we knowing give up certain rights at times. Being in uniform, we are not to speak against our government or our Commander in Chief, regardless of how we feel about either. If we want to publicly voice our opinions, we must reflect positively upon the uniform and our nation. I fully encourage public discourse. I also encourage sharing your viewpoint and thoughts with friends, family, and even coworkers. But when you put on that uniform, you do NOT disgrace it by doing something like this. And this individual was quite cowardly to share his thoughts by hiding behind the sign. He's obviously well aware that his command staff would NOT be pleased with him making these statements in this manner, so he blocked his identity. As a service member the only order you can legally refuse to obey is an 'unlawful order.' In order to understand what that means you need to understand what your purpose of service is. "To support and defend the Constitution of the United States, against all enemies, both foreign and domestic." If the order given violates either the Constitution, or rules of engagement (without proper justification), then it is deemed as unlawful, and you can refuse. If it does not violate either one then you are legally bound to obey it. If you refuse to obey a lawful order then you can try to explain that at your court-martial. The other part of the oath taken is that you will obey the orders of the President of the United States. For this Soldier to make a statement such as "I won't kill for this" tells me that he doesn't truly understand how the rules of engagement, or US Constitution works. Our orders are never to "kill." "Do not fire until fired upon." If nobody fires at you then you have no reason to kill. If somebody fires at you then you have every right to defend yourself, with deadly force. This soldier behaves as though he is in the Special Forces, Spec Ops, The Unit, or SEALS, who are the ones assigned to target specific people, and kill on site. That is not an everyday soldier's job. His proper wording should be "I will not fight back and defend myself for this." You want to go into war empty-handed, be my guest, but tossing your weapon, or surrendering it to your commander, and abandoning your unit is desertion, which, during a time of war, can potentially lead to death by firing squad. Last I heard the death penalty for desertion is still legal. The one who would make that final decision is the commanding general. Major General Norman Cota did it to Private Eddie Slovik. Just because many commanding generals deny the death penalty does not mean that all will do the same. Sometimes an example must be made and that's why Slovik was the first to be executed for desertion, since the civil war. Some soldiers need to truly think about why they joined the service, before they spout off their own political beliefs.

As a member of the services the UCMJ does apply and at no time are you to be in uniform doing what you are doing in the photo. When you swore your oath at your enlistment it was not conditional. Serving comes with dangers and benefits. Unfortunately, some think you can have it all......you cannot. If your convictions dictate you are unable or unwilling to follow your leaders, then please make the decision to ETS. Do not shame your unit or uniform.

Now, I do believe that not all leaders are the same and decisions have consequences and as a retiree I now have less restrictions on my opinions. Having said that, I would put the uniform back on to defend our constitution and the citizens of this country.

I get that some might say he should not publicly say that he does not want to fight this fight, and I agree.

I will also say that this generation of soldiers has been thrust into more wars than before. There were the never ending wars, the longest in U.S. history. After numerous deployments, that were pointless to me, I decided to find a way out. It is not easy to get out when you want to, there is a process, so to those who say for this soldier to get out, I say do you remember when you served, because you clearly don't. How many wars does this generation have to fight before we realize there are only so many battles we should be fighting.

I know there will be ridiculous comments due to my beliefs and I really don't care. But, with that being said, this is a fight I would much rather partake in as opposed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

To the young man holding the sign, if you were aware of the whole world dynamics of Russia's aggression in Ukraine. You should be very concern to the point of almost being very fearful. We are standing on the edge of the abyss of nuclear war. Russia cannot control Ukraine, Russia controls 40% of natural gas to western Europe, Ukraine supplies a vast amount of natural gas to the Slavic region which would give Russia great control over most of Europe. Ukraine has one of the worlds larges deposits of Neon which is critical for making semiconductors Russian has some of the largest deposits of Franckeite the second critical half. Ukraine food production supplies over 600,000,000 people food for three meals a day every year. Ukraine supplies large amounts of Coal and Ore for steel to China, what a deal there.
Russia did this to Chechnya, then Georgia, then Crimea and now Ukraine. Who's next and when, where do we draw the line and say no more. They are murdering civilians just because they can, they are raping women and killing them afterwards, looting stores and robbing homes. When do we say enough is enough? It's basically the same thing Hitler did taking a lot of Europe. It is better to do it now in one country, with a few hundred thousand, rather than a whole continent with 10's of millions.

As many others have already noted, this could very likely be a Russian based psyops exercise….a method to establish just enough doubt in the ranks to put just enough hesitancy in the well oiled fighting machine that is the US military that they can exploit! Is it our war? As a member of the United States Military you signed a contract and took an oath to support and defend the constitution of the United States and to also follow the orders all the way up the chain of Command, including the President.
#1 do not make statements contrary to this in uniform. You are an employee of the government and we would love to make an example of you.
#2 if you dont agree, finish your contract and get out, it's plain and simple.

We're not involved in the Ukraine so there's nothing to really 'protest' about. Joe himself said he would not deploy forces there, but we have them in neighboring NATO nations as they should be. And economic sanctions have been slapped on Russia by NATO and several nations. Given time they will squeeze Putin's ambitions. It's what ended apartheid in South Africa. I agree with the majority here, that of he/she had a point to make, then stand up and make it without hiding behind a piece of paper and accept the consequences. But I have another question I want pose to everyone on here. You do have to think at times and not just follow orders. That was the purpose behind the Nuremberg trials, that just following orders is no excuse, you have to follow the law.

So my question is, should a body of the government decide to pass a law such as rescinding the 2nd amendment, and you were ordered to enact this law by confiscating weapons or securing cities under curfew while the police collected weapons, would you obey because it was an order??

This may seem absurd to some, but as we all took an oath to uphold the constitution, do you just blindly obey and follow orders? Our rights which are in the constitution and bill of rights were not given by man,but end owed by our creator. Hence the reason religion is an important part of our society whether you choose to partake in religion or not.

The founding fathers knew that there was a very good possibility that men, who are easily corrupted, may try to take away the ability of the population to protect itself from a tyrannical government, which was the purpose of the second amendment.

There are other rights as well which could easily be taken away but that is just the most known one which everyone seems to be aware of.

That being said, I don't see any good changes happening to our military. Even The Epoch Times just posted an article talking about how the biden administration is persecuting service members who refuse the vaccine because of religious reasons, and are being denied religious exemptions, and their lives are being made a living hell, and how at a time when we NEED our military to be as strong as humanly possible, the biden administration is steadily, and consistently, WEAKENING our military through their policies. We have service members sleeping in their cars because they've been kicked out of military housing, and the barracks. We have deployed service members not being allowed to come home because they refuse the vaccine, (one service member in particular, has a 10 month old son who he's never seen or met, because they won't let him come home from Korea because he refuses the vaccine on religious grounds, (it didn't say how long he's been over seas)). Military chaplains commented in the article that they've never seen such abuse of U.S. military members. Morale is at an all time low. Veterans are no longer recommending a military life to kids interested in joining. And service members with 18 - 25 years of service, (including a general), are being forced out with total forfeiture of benefits unless they take the shot. As the article says, people with that much time in service are not easy to replace. That they are [almost] irreplaceable. Service members being PCS'd and their personal belongings being sent to the wrong location, and said service members are being forced to pay out of their own pocket to have their personal belongings shipped to the correct location...because they refused the vaccine on religious grounds. And I've now seen at least a couple of dozen articles in the news talking about how, (post injection), studies are showing the damaging medical side effects of the vaccine. But the mainstream news media flat refuses to mention one, single, syllable, about this. Actually, quite the opposite. All the mainstream news media wants to talk about is how states like California are working on legislation that actually makes it ILLEGAL to [publicly] make negative comments about the vaccine, and the negative side affects it is causing....let alone, publish proof of the negatives. It's being classified as "false information". They're not even willing to listen to, or read, anything the doctors and researchers have to say.

But.....political correctness, and woke ideology are the modus operandi dictated in our government and military these days by the current administration.....regardless of the damage it's doing to our military, and government....not to mention, our country, and society.

And The Epoch Times DID give the Office of the Secretary of Defense a chance to tell their side of the story in an interview, but the Office of the SoD didn't even acknowledge the phone calls or emails making the offer. So The Epoch Times published the only side of the story they could get.

And yes. I have the story saved if anyone wants me to share it to prove what I'm saying.

And the reason I'm talking about this, is because the original post of this particular thread reminded me of this article I just saw this weekend, and the news is very upsetting, and concerning for me. Service members not being allowed to come home?!?!?!? Active duty service members being forced to sleep in their POV's?!?!?!?!? And these are just 2 examples?!?!?!?!? It might be just me, but this is upsetting.

In 1981, we were in the field on REFORGER (look it up), an annual exercise that involved a massive number of troops. My boss spoke fluent German, so we helped investigate a lot of accidents. For some reason, there were an excessive amount of vehicle accidents and people were dying. Word came down from the top, "Nothing moves." My battery commander laid down on his cot, repeated the command and said, "Hey, I'm a soldier. I do what I'm told." That man retired from the Army many years later as a Major General. Rules, regulations, and military discipline exist for a reason.

I’m actually a little confused, not only by the post, but by the fact that at least part of it is from 2016 (It clearly shows 6 years since posting on the top left of the photo). We’re the Ukraine and Russia fighting six years ago & if not why post the photo? If they weren’t fighting or even hostile to each other at that time Than what was the original message that the OP is asking our opinion on and why was it changed to the photo above?

Regardless of all that this is my two cents on the sign:

Unless we are invited we should absolutely stay out of the Ukraine, but if they ask for our help then we should do our best to offer it.

I and many others were in a “cold war” with Russia for about 30 years total (I was in for the last six years of it) so that ship (no war with Russia) has sailed long ago.

The next two parts aren’t true because if Ukraine asks for our help as an Ally then it is definitely our fight AND our business.

If you don’t want to follow lawful orders AND aren’t willing to die for the greater good of both countries than you don’t need to be in a rapid deployment or any deployable unit in the Military and should ets out or get assigned to a training command so you don’t have to worry about being sent overseas.

My final statement on the post is this: Whoever the person is who posted this pic is a Double Coward: once for hiding his face while posting it and the second time for showing that (according to his uniform) he is a Combat Veteran with the 101st like I am (Iraq 2003-2004) who apparently doesn’t want to fight anymore.

I had two friends from the Ukraine who were my soldiers after they immigrated here, one of who just passed when Russia attacked the Ukraine (Thank God she didn’t have to see crap like this while she has family members still in her home country). I also have a friend from here who married a Ukrainian woman & who was living there & had to evacuate back to the US and finally There is a band I support who is originally from Russia, but who immigrated to Turkey not long ago because they couldn’t stand what their former government was doing to it’s own people since many Russians have family members in the Ukraine from what I was told. If I didn’t have medical issues that keep me from going back in and I was needed I would be there as fast as I could & would hope and pray I didn’t have someone like this anywhere around me when I did.

Excellent post. But I think the young Specialist is barking up the wrong tree by posting that sign. I believe that it's not His decision on wether He gets deployed to Ukraine or not. He should've spoke to His Team Leader before taking that picture and posting it like He did. Last time I checked this is what He signed up at a MEPS to do. Well first off, we don't know for sure if this is a real soldier. Just because the photos shows what looks like an authentic uniform, it is still suspect. So, We all know that political activities, to include statements are not allowed in uniform, that being said, you still have the right to your opinion, you just have to be more careful how you express it while in the military. The statements of "I won't kill for this, I won't die for this" tells me that this person has some serious misconceptions of what they are in the military for. I understand that they believe we should not be pushing this to the point of engaging in this fight all out, i.e. with ground troops, I agree with that point, but if you are unwilling to follow your orders and do your job as you signed up to do then you need to find another line of work. There are many that I'm sure would take you on with open arms, time to seek the out, and then get out of the military as you are not doing it any good. Hopefully we all go in with our eyes wide open and realize that some of the things that we will be asked to do are less than optimal let's say, and that goes with any job. To take a job and then whine about the things it entails is just childish. Grow up see what life really is and deal with it and make better choices or go home to mommy.

I wanted to be a Marine, I joined the Marines. I wanted to be in Special Forces, I got out of the Marines and joined the Army and made it into Special Forces. While I have always had political views and have supported both parties over the years, I have never tried to influence anyone toward my views because I have always felt that everyone has the right to make up their own mind.
It is my feeling if you want to support Russia, this statement is certainly supporting Russia, get your ass out of the US and go to Russia! I don't know if you are actually in the Army but I doubt it because you are wearing the rank of Spec-4 and have a 101st combat patch. The chances are that you are covering your face because you are not in the military because there shouldn't be any E-4s left that have 101st combat patches today.

I have a serious UCMJ question for y'all who are/were officers in the last twenty years.

His statement is ultimately hypothetical. IF this statement was a response to orders received, he should be subjected to court martial. But he is saying formally (in my opinion) he WILL refuse a future order, should it be given.

Setting aside political activism and the way the stunt was conducted on social media, if he was a Joe under your command and said in writing he would (future tense) defy any order (which does not yet exist) compelling him to deploy or otherwise engage in a war campaign (his duty as someone who enlisted purely of his own volition) he disapproved of, could he be prosecuted under UCMJ for something more specific and serious than simply showing disrespect to his chain of command? Let us assume in this case that conscientious objector status was not a viable defense.

To those who inevitably will start saying he has Constitutional protections: Those aren't absolute. The Constitution is mutilated when it comes to servicemembers; many rights are reduced or outright lost, and we sign up knowing that. For example, even privately criticizing or insulting POTUS could be considered sedition. This is why I ask.

It seems to me that we all had taken an oath, some of more times than we can recall for sure. I took my 1st Oath of Allegiance in 1972 when I first signed up for the US Army (Delayed Entry Program). As far as I am concerned that Oath is still in full force and will continue to be for as long as I can draw a breath! This Soldier is in need of a trip to the back room for some one on one retraining and alignment with what the US Army is there for! I am glad that I am not his Squad Leader as we would have had a 'chat' to get him straightened out. There again I am not sure I could trust him to watch my 6. I also am not sure I would want him anywhere near me if the balloon were to go up! Friendly fire might find him some dark night! Wow, there are thousands in the military that feel like this soldier does but they aren’t coming out to say it. The military has never been apolitical. Every movement the chief makes is based on political gain, economic gain, and strategical positioning. Considering the fact that this uniform has been out of service since 2017, I would guess this wasn’t an actual Soldier. Once you are out and have served, the great majority of us having done so honorably, you are most entitled to your opinion—you have certainly earned it. You should have also learned how to appropriately convey your opinion so as to be a proper example of speaking your mind on a political issue, and not the proper example of a POS horse’s ass!!! If decided, the military can easily track this photo through this platform and digital signature to find this soldier to hold them accountable under numerous UCMJ violations. I’m sure MANY of them held personal, religious & political views that were most likely in opposition with their assignments at hand. It is the resilience, fortitude and fighting spirit that makes the American Soldier the most feared fighting force on the planet. If ordered we go in fully knowing that we may not return home and proudly take on that task setting aside our personal beliefs and now the focus is to get the job done and get as many of our brothers and sisters home safely as possible. Afterwards? We can belly ache as much as we want BUT that is AFTER the job is done. It made a world of difference to me knowing that regardless of the situation that the soldier next to me was fighting (just as I) to ensure that the mission was accomplished and that we BOTH made it home to our families. God Speed young man & I Pray that you learn to respect the blood shed, lives lost and passion that MANY of us have as it pertains to having had the HONOR to Dawn that uniform!

If you are "Man enough" to put a sign up then you need to be man enough to show your face. I agree with a lot of people on this site that you should stand up for different rights and other things that you think you should up for. However, you also have to remember (no matter what branch of service your in) saying, writing acting or doing something with protests or getting involved in certain activities and or posting social media stuff can get you court marshalled under UCMJ. The apprioate and legal thing this Soldier should have done is talk amongest his or her peers and higher up before making this statement. This is putting his or her unit in the news and facing some serious unnecessary consequences and unnecessary attention. Again we dont know all the facts here and Im not here judge or make judgements. But based on what I saw and read this is my opinion. I hope all works out for the best.

#1: Enlistment is voluntary. #2: You should research the requirements/ expected conduct before committing to enlisting. The bottom line is if the regulations tell you that you are not allowed to voice political opinions while in uniform, then you don't do it period! Just like the CJCS shouldn’t be “publicly”and “independently” advocating for war one way or the other while representing the military, neither should a specialist. However, after several high ranking officers have publicly used their status to sway foreign policy through the media - (and in the case of Trump a few publicly and proudly resisted his policies) - what is good for the goose is good for the gander. Once the progressive officers in the military became political
instruments to get rid of Trump and attack senior members in Congress who advocated leaving small wars, they lost the moral authority to keep lower ranking soldiers to do so.

Maybe I'm just skeptical by nature but that "Soldier" is not wearing the correct uniform for this photograph to be legitimate. OCP's are the correct Army uniform since before the Ukrainian War began.

As for the message I've no issue, we all have opinions but as a leader I would address the method used to announce the opinion. Corrective Action is required.

We don't do a very good job explaining the responsibilities we have as soldiers to fulfill our oaths of enlistment. The only reason to publish something like this is to pretend that you speak for soldiers. Obviously, this Specialist speaks for no one but himself, and he needs to have that explained to him honestly, professionally and courteously. Next, he needs to understand that the uniform and the flag on his right shoulder and Screaming Eagle patch below it are not props. (Pass over why does he have his ACU cap on indoors?) Finally, someone needs to explain the limits to his decision making authority while in service to the Nation. Basically, we give the sign up, swear an oath, and we give the nation a blank check on our lives, our future, our hopes and our dreams. For so long as we are under that oath, that check is waiting to be cashed.

My drill commander would tell us we only recognize 3 colors: red, white, and blue. Making us color blind to everything else. As long as you carry a military ID, you have no voice. You should respect the chain of command with the President of the U.S. at the head. You should care about their personal views. You should respect the orders POUS, leaving your personal views silent. I don't agree with any servicemen out protesting on our off duty, and if this person is a veteran in uniform, then he's showing more disrespect. There's many views I've heard over the years from 'Why are we sending food and money to foreign countries when there's E-4s that can't feed his family?' Another going alone with the sign person is holding.Why should we keep sending our military arms to Ukraine? Just to have them used against a US servicemen one day. Just sitting in Veterans Hospital, you can hear many of their views. In the end, it is about pride and respect not just for the uniform; your chain of command, and country; it's about yourself, because you knew why you went through that long process at MEPS to raise your hand, not a sign.

Sadly, not surprised, coming from that generation. My son is an WOC, who was born in late 90s. He has expressed several time his disappointment and frustration with younger troops. Many of them don't live (or even accept) the Army values and their service is purely mercenary. This will only get worse and recruiting numbers already reflect the selfishness and lack of values of the young Americans today.

Young spoiled brat-I agree with Sgt Kennedy and the 1Sgt! You need to take off that Uniform and be the coward you truly are. I served 24 years in AF ( I am a MSgt Retired)and I loved doing my job to help our 3 Combatants Services (Army, Navy and USMC) get their dental done so they can go back to the Theatre of Operations. In DS/DS I served with the Army and Marines a few times helping Patients get past CCP.(Casulty Collection Point) and go on to Air Force ATH to get their urgent medical care done. I might be able to understand of you were scared and you were still going to do you job-About 90% of our Country's Forces may get a little nervous or scared but they still show up and do what needs to be done.

What do I think about it.......hmm.... Saddened, sickened, angry and mostly I just want to punch him in his sign! Both patches should be ripped off his arm! Soldiering is all fun and games, until it is time to soldier up! I did not serve because I thought I would be able to weigh in and give my opinion, or because I thought I would make a lot of friends or to pay for my schooling.... why I joined and served went much deeper than that, almost unexplainable. It is almost impossible to me to understand anyone joining who does not feel it in the deepest part of their soul and understand it is inevitable, it is part of who they are. If you can explain exactly why you joined, then you probably joined for the wrong reasons. ha ha ha. That was my feeling about MANY other conflicts. Funny thing is, because I am well educated on WWII and atrocities that happened to MY mother AND father via Japanese and Germans, FEB 2022, when Ukraine was INVADED by the 2nd super power in the world (AKA Russian), if I could have gone I would have been there. People have not learned from WWII. Many RUSSIAN atrocities AFTER they "liberated" Poland. It wasn't just the Jewish that suffered. But Americans don't learn these things and think it is "not our problem". That is what they said until Pearl Harbor. Then, all of a sudden it WAS our problem. A lot too late. MANY more lives were lost.
Let us really do lessons learned AND support Ukraine with everything we have. All of Western Europe is at stake. AND YES, USA also. You think N. Korea and China aren't watching with baited breath to see how they can capitalize on Europe and USA weakness?
It is what it is. We are UNhuman. Human is an oxymoron.

And, when in uniform, you may keep your damn opinions to yourself. You SERVE, you are not served by your own desires. I had a long military career and that was the hardest. I had to serve under presidents I wished were not president. I despised their arrogance, their UNfaithfulness to our country, their NOT saluting those at the bottom of the stairs of AF1/2. etc etc. Nobody cared. You serve your country. If you want a political opinion, wait until you get out or are retired. If you can't do that, get out before you get yourself a courtmartial You clearly don't know what it means to SERVE in the millitary.

But as to Ukraine, please. The current and last FOUR administrations are responsible for the mess in Ukraine. The last four quietly pushed for Ukraine to join NATO. Nothing happened, so Russia was quiet.

THIS administration has 'ties' with Ukraine. Everybody knows it. Deniers are just in the dark about it. THIS administration sent a state department person who apparently "convinced" Ukraine this time to publicly state they want to join NATO. Can you imagine Ukraine in NATO? That would sure make money laundering easier. Russia then invaded Ukraine. Why? Because of Crimea.

Russia did not care about hot air from Ukraine and the previous four administrations. But what they absolutely will not give up is their warm-water port. And the nation-label may say Crimea/Ukraine but most of the population there is Russian.

The US started this mess. The US could end it. But THIS administration and the payola DC group are making too much money from it.

Most believe Russia would not start a nuclear war over this. Maybe they are right. But maybe they are wrong. One crazy Russian field commander could start WW III. If it does start, I only hope it kills the people in government that started this mess at least a few minutes before it kills us.

The military is a war machine. If you don't want to do our Country's bidding, then you shouldn't be in it (that is, the military nor this Country). No one should be in the military if they are not willing to do what is asked of them and whole heartedly. Patriotism is not something conditional. People didn't like me when I joined the military during Vietnam out of high school, and I still don't like those kinds of people who stayed in college to stay out of the war or that went to Canada at that time. I can not kick them out of this country but I can deem them 2nd rate citizens and cowards. The regular soldier should be like a ranger not a panniewaist but then look at our Country since the Reagan / Bush era, not meaning baby Bush. They all betrayed our Country because they either hated it and used our Military to get rich or whatever!

First of all, we aren't actually going to the Ukraine because we don't want to kick off a world war - if you can't understand that then you aren't military material. Secondly, anyone who makes the statement; "it is not our fight/war" - if a nation doesn't stand for something and support it's allies, said nation is not worthy of respect on the world stage.
Third, you can hide your face when stating your opinion but it does not mean people won't know who you are, nor does it hide your cowardice. Real soldiers understand that if a people's freedom is at risk that it is just the beginning.
Lastly, for a person of color to speak against aid for a marginalized people who protested with people of color from the US during BLM protests - you obviously don't see that they are fighting, to not be slaves; learn your history...

He makes a great point and his reluctance to "out" himself in today's military political climate is an exercise in common sense - especially if he wants to make the Army a career. As it relates to the U.S. history in involving itself in foreign wars, spilling American blood, and wasting American treasure we have a dismal record since the Korean War where we lost half the country - the Vietnam War where we lost the entire country and then we could add places like Yemen, Somalia, Iraq, and Afghanistan etc. We won the fucking battles alright but the only territory we conquered or occupied at any one time was the grass under our feet. When we left, which was predictable and inevitable, the enemy just marched right back in and subjugated the people we died fighting for. If we want to invade a country for a righteous cause we need to invade Mexico - kill all the fucking Mexican Cartel assholes and their political allies in Mexico and along our Southern Border - destroy their labs making Fentanyl and sink those CCP ships bringing in those chemical precursors the Cartels are using to make Fentanyl. The current Ukraine/Russia mess started in 2022. That uniform-- ACUs-- began phase-out in 2015 (I lost mine in 2016 and never looked back), and they ceased authorization as a duty uniform in September 2019. Longer ago than my entire enlistment, from E-1 to E-4 to ROTC.

There's a slim chance that SPC Anonymous here was referring to the 2014 dust-up when Putin & Co. annexed Crimea, and somebody dug up the old picture to recycle, but even if so, he's wrong for making political statements in his uniform and craven for hiding behind his sign. If he's still serving, he's likely an NCO by now. And if he posted this himself as an old-but-still-current meme comment, he's still hiding behind the sign to break the rules on political statements. However valid his position is, as stated, is no longer the issue: he may not use his uniform to endorse it, and he may not go AWOL if that's where his unit deploys to.

I think soldiers have always had political opinions; and a soldier has the same rights as any other American to feel the way they do. Just keep that opinion to yourself while you're in uniform or connected to the service.

Its really not so different than what any civilian would do for any employer. You're not typically going to publicly complain criticize your employer while you're still an employee and expect to keep your job. That' just common sense. Once you become a former employee, you get to say anything you want.

Can this be confirmed as a real post? There have been a number of deep fake posts showing up on the internet lately, including one of Sen Rand Paul that was totally out of character.

The background suggests an attempt at disinformation. It is not something beneath the ability and inventiveness of the Soviet-come-Russian propaganda machine. At the very least this is an outdated picture, since I believe this digital uniform has been out of use for a number of years (not sure because I am a bit long in the tooth and last wore BDUs 30+ years ago).

If it is real and is current, then the argument of no political statements while in uniform stands for this soldier, just as for all of us, and this soldier needs to be up front and become a conscientious objector, or ask to be released from active duty, including all that entails as far as lost Veterans benefits and returning enlistment bonuses.

If someone believes in a cause, they should be willing to stand up for and defend their beliefs and should be willing to accept the future outcomes as a result. All of us promise to do so when we raise our right hand.

When you become a member of the armed forces, you give up certain rights. You don't have to agree with why we as a country are getting involved in a particular conflict. You duty is to follow the orders of you superior officer and command and chief, and as long as those orders are lawful and not morally abhorrent then you are to follow them.

We are all going to die sooner or later. I came in at the beginning of the Vietnam War and left after it was over. I thought there was a rule about protesting in uniform. I know we were not to get involved with marches or protests in a way that would make your unit look bad or our country look bad. Was supposed to wear the uniform with pride and honor. In today’s world information travels fast. To many outlets for voicing opinions. Your political views per se are yours. Vote but when it comes to that uniform and what it represents I must remind those people you took an oath. First, who is still wearing the "Gravelpit camo", I am pretty sure that everyone has transitioned to OCP. So, I think this person just wanted to reminisce about their old ACU's and post this. I am pretty sure they have a choice IF they are in to either get on the plane or make rocks into little ones in Leavenworth (IMO). Secondly, I wouldn't chapter the poor kid, that would be too easy. Plus, they apparently made the choice before by looking at their right shoulder. Plus, chaptering would just put them back home, and darn it, we need the bodies lol. Third, just like some have said, don't be a pussy, I mean coward to hide your face. If you are going to believe in something, then be proud of it. He certainly is entitled to exercise his right to free speech but, it should not be done in uniform. His position that he won't fight (if so ordered) is totally inappropriate/insubordinate. If he is ordered to do something (fight) and refuses, he should be court martialed (jailed) and removed from the service. The honorable thing for him to do TODAY, would be advise his command that he will not follow a lawful order (Even though on has not been given regarding Ukraine) and be processed out of the military.

#1 - ACU Digital Camo out of compliance in 2019, so making a statement in "uniform" out of compliance is highly suspect.

#2 - speaking "while in uniform" isn't speaking on behalf of the military, that's dumb. While in uniform, any questions I'm asked or statements I make, let's not forget I'm a U.S. citizen first and have all Constitutional rights as any other citizen.

I do not believe this message was posted by an active duties service member. I remember going to Vietnam conflict that I served in that soldiers were protest the war everybody protesting the war. But the rule was if you want to protest the war and you are active duty in the armed forces you cannot protest in uniform. That was a trying times we had a lot of fucking draft Dodgers like Bill Clinton and Donald Trump and a lot of people burn their draft cards to protest the draft and the war and ran off to Canada. Jimmy Carter when he was elected gave them all amnesty and they came back to the USA. As a 27-year veteran master sergeant I was never thought that I was have a commander in chief that was a draft Dodger womanizer dope smoking Bill Clinton, but we accept it but I never thought again I will have another Commander in Chief draft Dodger named Donald Trump. Now a lot of Americans do not remember the draft I do I was an Army recruiter during the draft and a lot of soldiers or prospective soldiers got out of draft so easily like Bill Clinton and Donald Trump and the ones who wanted serving with minorities the poor Parish ones and the ones that could not get out of the draft so I've been to all this particular controversy so to the active duty young soldiers today get your head out of your ass and if you want to protest if you want to protest do not do it in uniform. The problem we have right now we have very few men who want to join or even qualify to join, we got the women taking up the slack So to that soldier who want to protest get your head out of your ass and do your job and do your duty and do not protest in uniform and shut the fuck up and that's my thought from a senior master sergeant Vietnam vet

this just tripped the Algorithm and came across my feed.
1. Military members are prohibited from making political, and or religious Statements while in uniform. Each Service member gets this as part of their training in boot camp. the Military Won't stop you from Having Opinions, but if they are made in uniform and in public, People may think that those opinions stated, may be carried throughout the military, when they are only private opinions.
2. If Personal opinions are stated publicly, while in uniform, the service member expressing those opinions could be brought up for disciplinary action, for potentially seditious reasons.
3. it's sad to think that a US service member could be so stupid, as to not realize that; by providing Arms and Munitions to Ukraine, that's keeping Russia from Attacking a NATO member country, which would REQUIRE the US to get involved & potentially getting US personnel directly involved in a shooting war with Russia.

How does the message make me feel regarding national policy, or personal freedom? This guy is going to have problems refusing 'to fight' if so ordered; that question was central in VietNam, and more or less settled. Nobody wants there to be all-out war with Putin's 'Evil Empire' but somewhere he's talked the talk, maybe he's hesitant to walk the walk? WWIII would go nuclear immediately, of course, with no winners. But, where does this SP4 want to fight? Only where he chooses?
As a draftee in 1969, I was a reluctant warrior, but once I took that one step forward, I knew I was in it to the fullest, and for $106/mo., too! This GI, if he is one, which looks likely, should have thought about that possibility when he did. As the British say "Don't join up if you can't take a joke!"
Notice I didn't address his opinion of national policy; don't someone go taking this personally!

well, he is with the Screaming Eagles, a SPC and most likely a POG who probably never has been in a combat environment. Totally discredits the uniform he is obligated to wear and serve at the discretion of the president. I think he should be processed for discharge, if he cannot carry out the orders of his Commanding Officer if he were to be deployed. Need to weed out of the weak, as they will compromise the mission and this SPC could not be counted on to protect another soldiers six.

He wouldn't have made it in the 60's or 70's. I'm not sure why he joined the military. With what he posted, I am assuming he is looking for a job at Leavenworth. Not as a guard, but as a prisoner. Canada won't take him. Maybe he can go to N. Korea. They had one US soldier desert during the Viet Nam war. Just now came back to the states.
Believe me, when I say he would be the first one to go on patrol, as "point"
Like Sgt. Kennedy says "Political statements aren't to be made in uniform", but in reality it isn't enforced. And usually its made in company of like thinking individuals. Usually lower ranking individuals, from E1 up to and including E4. Sometimes higher ranks, but few.

This MILITARY IMPERSONATOR needs to be arrested and Courtmartialed. If it is truly a current member of the military, they should not only be Courtmartialed but summarily executed for dereliction of duty, refusing to follow orders of their superiors, and TREASON!

It was made by a specialist out of the 101st.It's a political statement and rather stupid. The SM should know better. You can't tall the SM's name from this but there is enough there that his command can identify him if they see this.

Whether we ultimately go to war with Russia or even enter into a conflict with them is not up to him. He like the rest that serve in our armed services did so voluntarily with the knowledge that war could come and that men and women in our services could and would be called upon to put their lives on the line in defense of peace. It is not as black and white as some would paint it. Putin is testing the waters, and in so doing testing the US. No one wants to see, let alone needs a resurgent Russia.

And yes, this is cowardice and indicates that this individual will disobey orders if so given.

If, in fact you are in the military, and you want to make a political statement, fine, but do it in civies and not in uniform. I suppose, after 9/11, it is a good thing that the rest of the world didn't share your view.

Unless I'm completely in left field, being in uniform and expressing this sentiment has and is totally unacceptable. That being said, you have the right to your opinion and to express it in an appropriate manner and setting as long as it is perfectly clear that it doesn't represent whatever branch you are in and that your opinion doesn't represent that of the military. Better judgement by an individual should be exercised. and by the way, why is this even being discussed in the 1st place???!!! Ask yourself why you are in the military to start with.

Any honest, realistic person would post this message. The soldier isn't wrong.
When leadership becomes political it would be wise for soldiers, of any rank, with courage and conviction to push back.
Russia is not our enemy, neither is Iran. Propaganda is.
