How exactly is a Sergeant Major promotable? SGM(P)?

I've seen someone on here listing himself as a SGM(P). A SGM holds the pay grade of E-9. Did someone create E-10 while I wasn't looking? Uh, no. If I can be a WO1 a month away from my promotion date, have promotion orders IN MY HANDS, and still be chastised for listing myself as WO1(P)....uh, no. What gives?

Must be a twilight zone thing, or a misprint. I had to laugh when I read your post.
The only thing I can possibly think of is promotable to officer. but at E-9, I thought that was not possible, or at the very least unheard of to the point of silliness.

Then again, I have also seen many people on rallypoint point out that people using the (P) are insecure somehow. so I suppose the "p" might be the E-9's way of trying to say "hey.. look at me... I'm a E-9, and I'm in good standing... I'm a beacon pay attention to me".

EDIT : Now that i think about it... SGM is not the max rank. "COMMAND Sergeant Major", or "SERGEANT MAJOR OF THE [service]" should be the highest rank...

Or since the Navy has to be different, the next higher rank gets listed with a (Sel) after it. The Smage must have swabbie DNA.
