How far do you go for your fellow service members?

So I am a newer NCO and part of that is making sure your guy and girls are under you are taken care of. So one of the first things I did was made sure they could get a hold of me. I have also taken the time to get to know a little bit of each one of them on a more personal note. I feel that it is important to understand were they are coming from . I call a couple of them each month to check up on them and see how they are doing. During the drill weekend I try to spend some time with them out side of duty hrs as I feel that it is important to share that bond with them as they are more apt to want to call someone they trust. So I found myself on the phone mostly listening to them. I think got me wondering how many truly use the wing man concept or battle buddy for you a army folk? What are some of the ways you use it?
