How far in advance should block leave be requested?

I get to my unit on December 14th and I wanted to take leave for Christmas and New Year during block leave. However, I’m worried it might be too late for me to request leave at that point. Does anyone know how far in advance do you have to request off for block leave before it’s too late?

Usually 30 days is the norm, so as to give everyone time to review and sign....but every unit works different. You may very well have to wait until you arrive on station to your unit and speak with your NCOs to see what your options are.

It is completely up to the commander. You could contact the unit and ask about taking leave right after you get there and go with whatever guidance that you are given. They say that you can take leave and they may say that you cant but it will not hurt to ask.
