How hard is it to volunteer for a combat zone deployment?

I am hoping to be able to volunteer this summer for a combat zone deployment next year, I was not able to access MOBCOP, but what is the process like? Does anyone have any experience and advice?

Make an account in milsuite. Should see the available openings to take on a WIAS Tasker. Good luck. Get with somebody who has done one and have them walk you through the process.

Look on dod.pfi.mil
It can be accessed from a personal computer and many of the mobilizations are not MOS Specific.

As an 11B it's going to be tough because most mobilizations will be with the guard and they will usually fill from their own state first.

I know this from repeated experience, if you want to go, are healthy and free of emotional issues then they will stamp NO on the idea. If you are trying every last thing in your power not to go, they will stop at nothing to waiver, push you through the system and validate or falsify things to get you there.

At this point it’s probably not going to be easy or likely. We’re drawing down in Afghanistan and I don’t know how much of a thing Iraq still is.

Call hrc if you know of a specific unit getting ready to mobilize and find out what spots are needed. If you can fill the spot, tell the nco on the other line you'd like orders for that. I believe it's called "wise tasking" or something similar. I was stationed at the old guard and was fenced in. Tried three separate times to go on deployments. Wasn't allowed due to the fence.
