How has RallyPoint helped you?

I'm relatively new to Rally Point but I was just curious to hear of stories how Rally Point has helped you in your professional/personal advancement. Whether that was in building connections as you grow in your Military career or if Rally Point opened new doors for you through a civilian career.

RallyPoint has helped me, SPC Nate Lamphier, by allowing me to re-connect with the military in an online forum. Heck, I still work for the Army as a civilian, so you wouldn't think that I would need a site like this, but I very much enjoy interacting, reading, learning, and contributing. I guess things are a little less inhibited online, and people are more willing to open up. Plus, I'm a civilian now, a retiree, so I'm not really "in the mix" when it comes to military things at the unit where I work.

SPC Nate Lamphier, RallyPoint has grown a ton since I joined. I have been fortunate to re-connect with friends that I have not talked to in years, connected with new folks both in and out of the Service who have helped me develop both professionally and personally, but most of all, it has provided me with new POCs to assist other Service-members. If there is a question, issue, or need that I cannot address with confidence, I know that I have met someone on this site who can and I can reach out to find the answer. That is probably the most important thing. Individually we do not know everything, but collectively, we know a lot more.

I have been conducting some research here to find RP members from IL. there were 2 reasons why I wanted to look at this. First to see where the concentration of members were from. Second to see just how many were looking for employment. i was really shocked at the numbers I came across. That is my main reason as a military recruiter that I am posting every job fair, career fair whatever the feel good name is for these events are to get the word out. It my purpose now to help any and every veteran I can. I may not be a decision maker that can place a veteran, but i will help any way I can. Good luck to all, share your experiences, network. It may be that one connection that gets you hired.

Personally, I like being able to ask questions and get real answers. I asked questions about the Army and AirForce for years but never got any real answers. Here I learned what I was wondering.

Here is my cerebral answer. I use RP like a constant in a sea of variables, a waypoint for my emotions. It helps me moderate how I feel sometimes.

Where else can a Reserve Marine Sgt, Active Duty Army Capt., Retired Navy SCPO, Air National Guard TSgt and CG Active Duty Ens (as examples) have a conversation about contemporary topics? And get feedback from a Retired AF Lt Col, while getting comments from an Active CSM?
RP Is a most interesting place.

Before RallyPoint, I was lost in the world of social media, with no idea what a thumb could do or what an Influence Point was or what it was worth.

And now I proudly work to collect and horde all the influence points!

And I now know if a 2nd Lieutenant should salute a 1st Lieutenant.
