How important is a PCS to a military career?

I have been at my current (first) duty station for just over 7 years. My time on station, compared to others in my AFSC (2M0), is still below average. I've applied for orders through different avenues and have been denied.

I think in order to reach the strategic level in the Air Force or even Unified Commands I need to move around and see it all.

In the Army, it all depends if you are perceived to be avoiding challenging assignments. I spent a lot of time in Colorado, but I deployed 4 times to Iraq, so nobody could say that I was trying to get an easy assignment.
