I had a brief overview about the life of a 70D from my recruiter and the youtube video I found online. But, I have never met a 70D in my life, and wanted to know how is life of being a 70D in Army and Army reserves; and what all to expect in training, is the training environment similar to AIT for enlisted Soldiers? How is a training and workday of a 70D? 2019-06-16T10:34:06-04:00 1LT Private RallyPoint Member 4726659

I am currently an E4 US Army Reservist and recently (May board) got selected for 70D and currently waiting for Scoll approval from Congress. First of all congratulations you have joined the ranks of the elite minimal few. Between the reserves and active duty you just joining a group of 150 people or so!

Well I can tell you that you that you have a long path ahead but I would say, that it will be a fun one.
You will be easily for the next 3 years focused on the following:

1) You need to go to Direct Commissioning course
2) Attend BOLC

After this , I would get some dwell time as you will need to start working on the following

1) If you don't have it get your security + you will need this for anything you do on the reserve side of the house. I would self study and then register for one of the courses out of Fort Mccoy or For Gordon for one week
2) After that I would start looking for MC4 level 4 admin training after you finished your Sec+ If you can't do this early or can't find a class register for Phase 1 70 D course
3) After this you are looking at a 196 hour course for 70D Phase 1
4) Followed up by 6 weeks in residency for Phase 2 in Fort Sam.

Since there is a lot of "budgeting" in units expect to do Phase 1 one year followed by phase 2 the next year.

As far as daily Duties of a reserve 70D

I would say prepare to embrace the idea of being a help desk admin for a while. Most units don't know what a 70D does other than ARAMP help desk IT. Hate to say it but your main role is to transform these units to focus them away from that. You should be working with your enlisted staff on developing training plans around a possible deployment. This includes doing a setup of a TOC and its supporting systems. Then training around the MC4 systems and doing credentialing within that system.

Also start reaching out to fellow 70D's don't go blind on this path. Unfortunately I will say that even though we are supposed to be communicators we do a bad job of keeping together especially on the reserves.

What I recommend you do is look for a fellow 70D to mentor you during this path.I am always up to mentoring to the level I am at. Beyond that I can help you look for others.

As active duty 70D's

Well you can't be a 70D until you are a captain and even then you are looking to get "Selected" into the AOC.

Once you are selected a 70D and after doing track course. They will make you do the above but in a daily activity and focus on Comms plans and support for a hospital in deployment.

You won't hit an MTF ( medical treatment facility) until you are a Major in most cases and even then the landscape is changing with DHA.
All I can say is that most CIO's are focused now on the transition to MHS Gensis. And budgets because most facilities do to this change has had their budgets taken out

Just a little bit of insight, if you have any other questions IM me and we can continue chat further. Quick story, I tried to Direct Commission in OCT, 2020. Was already about to do a TPU transfer in May, 2020 when I got a call from my recruiter that the army has suspended direct commissioning for 70D indefinitely. Been searching for a while for some information or MEMO or Alaract concerning such suspension but can't find anything. My recruiter couldn't give me any documentation to back up his claim that recruitment is suspended. I am having a hunch there is more to this and trying to get assistance or anything that will help with my research. Thank you.
