How is it being stationed at JBER, Alaska? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-is-it-being-stationed-at-jber-alaska

Hey everyone! I am an 11B and I am currently in holdover at Airborne to go to my unit in Alaska...I was just wondering what info you guys have about JBER and if you liked it. I heard both good and bad and to be honest didn’t know Alaska was an option for me I thought I would’ve ended up at Bragg for sure lol. I’m a huge salmon fisherman so I’m sure I’ll love that aspect! If anyone knows any other information it would be greatly appreciated! He likes it except for the long dark winter, but he said the snow isn't much different than what we have here in Montana. Good luck on your assignment. Remember that it is what you make it. If you think it sucks, it will. Get out and enjoy the state. TSgt David L. Absolutely loved it! Artic Valley is where I saw most soldiers training with skis - or for fun. Alyeska, down on the peninsula is much, much better. Salmon run - if the tour guides are still there, the Russian River is a must! Moose hunting (rifle or camera) is also good.

As far as the bases - every base is going to be what you decide to make of it. Every tour is going to be what you decide to make of it.

Alaska is a magical land! Enjoy.
