There is some tie to the military for those here - whether they are members, vets, civilian supporters, or employers looking to recruit. The other two are sites where anyone from anywhere can belong. Groups like Pog boot fuck and just the tip are largely negative in nature giving all service members a bad image. It's gotten so bad that the phrase "angry Facebook veterab" is a very real thing. I'm embarrassed by most of what these groups put on there and the mob mentality that they breed. LinkedIn has become more of a social site then what was intended for (Business and professionals). I see this every day because I use it for most of my business contacts in the Healthcare Industry. Facebook for me is for family, friends, high school friends, college friends, and a lot of personal stuff about people that gets posted that wouldn't be appropriate for RP. RP gives all the services, veterans, retirees, active duty, reserves, national guard, and coast guard a place to start discussions that are related to the RP family and get discussions on news that affect everyone in the military as well as the public. It is different and based on a point system (if your interested in that) and allows you to join various groups based on your hobbies and things you like to do as well. It allow everyone to professional agree or disagree with others or provide a different perspective. I have learned so much more about the other service branches on RP that I may become a SME. Doubt it. I have made some very good connections on RP and then I have a lot of connections that haven't even finished their profiles or they don't visit RP at all after joining. It is what it is! There are dissenting views, which is good because otherwise it would be boring. But we share a spoken and unspoken bond of service that can't be replicated on the other two sites except inside smaller groups. I like it here. Better question? Has anyone found the golden path for transitioning soldiers from Military to Corporate? I have seen many programs out there and some may have value but I am not seeing the teaching, coaching, mentoring needed to make the leap or the bridge.
