Depends on if you intend to be a real 1SG, Senior enlisted adviser of the unit, in-charge of the welfare of the enlisted troops, or are you going to follow the trend and impose yourself as the units operations NCO, de-facto XO?

Just leave the services alone. They all have a certain job to do and with all the crap going on today now is not the time to start mucking around with something that works very well. Just stop

Being a 1SG is being a 1SG and leading and taking care of your soldiers come first and everything else will fall in line. Treat them the way you want to be treated Hooah

Its making sure your troops are doing the right thing and ensure that they are taken care of just as at any other unit.

Being a 1SG a reward in itself its just geography after that.
