I'm located in western Iowa and have been fishing some lakes and pits lately. I have been landing my fair share of 10-13 inch Crappies along with some jumbo blue gills. A friend of mine landed a couple nice large mouth bass in these same areas. I expect the fishing will only get better over the next few weeks as the fish will start to move closer to shore and make their beds.

I have had the best luck using a white/black 1.5 inch twisty on a 1/16 oz black jig. Last night I had pretty good luck with a two toned green twisty (on the same jig). A kid here at school said he has started to catch catfish on the local small river. With knowing that, my quest to catch my first Flathead Catfish may have to begin here in the near future.

I will say this, tics have been absolutely horrible. I would have to say, the last four times I've gone out I've had over 60 crawling around on me. I use about a can of deet (40%) so that helps to prevent them from at least biting me. The one pit that I have been going to doesn't have a lot of trees....just some knee high grass.

Not sure how it is in NY this year because I have not made it back yet BUT it is the only thing I love about that state. Lake Ontario has great salmon fishing . The Adirondacks are an unlimited resource for fishing with many small and large lakes that are loaded with any type of fish to suit your fancy. If you like game fish the St. Lawrence River up around The 1000 Islands area has great Muskie and Pike fishing . Even the Erie Canal is loaded with bass and carp fishing along with as much pan fish as a younger kid would also love. I will be going back again ( I live in Florida now) for a couple months this summer and can not wait to get out fishing again ( and seeing the grandkids) . The Adirondack Region is a great place to spend summers and vacation as long as you do not live in NY because the taxes and cost of living will break you. Added bonus to that area is also a perfect area with unlimited trails if your into riding ATV's and Snowmobiles or Ice Fishing.

I hate to be "that guy"....especially to SFC Christopher Perry....but I got to go out for about an hour this evening and caught four keepers (Crappies). They were all 10 plus inches with the biggest being around 13. Caught a couple nice Blue Gills as well with plenty of small ones mixed in.
