If that location you’re sent to is strategical or tactical. And you’re command in general.

From my experience: (tactical mission set in Alaska) it was very rough. We barely did our jobs and instead did details and cleaned. The only time we did our jobs was when we went out to the field.

On the other hand, my AIT buds who went to strategical bases did their jobs , never went to the field , and worked shift work. (Like a normal job).

Depending on where you get sent will either be great or not so great depending on your personality. My first unit as a 35F (well 96B before they changed it) straight out of AIT was to a combat EN BN in the S2. I spent 4 1/2 years there in S2 and deployed twice with them.

Then I went to Cyber Command when it stood up after I reenlisted for Ft Meade. Then to Ft Riley to an infantry bde and was in the BSTB - first the MICO then BDE S2. Then STRATCOM on a compassionate. Back at JBLM but not the same unit I started in.

Most of the time - you're going to be in an S2 shop. BN or BDE. You might go to a MICO. But most of the time it's going to be S2 for your first unit. Then was sent to AFRICOM asa Joint Operations Center Watch Chief, then Central/Southern African Analyst, then to a MICO, then to the NCO Academy as an DLC Instructor. It is literally up in the air what you could be doing once you switch over. While in the SCIF you are less likely to get picked out for details. But make no mistake you are no CIA intel analyst. Everything is going to be over classified because no one has ever been criminally charged for putting TS/SCI on everything.
