The thing is if you were on a shore duty billet and command and then deployed under Navy IA ECRC and forward deployed the mandatory down time is 12 months for any thing longer than a 6 month IA assignment. Being assigned to a operational or Sea-duty,like Ship, Air wing or SQD and another type sea flow command like NECC units or support the down time is 30 days and they can deploy you, even to an IA as long as you have not done a IA. We need more info to answer your question like what type of command and time between deployments. But pretty sure IA is treated differently. UIC has a little to do with it too. But I've been a retired for a year now so who knows how much has changed. Good luck! However, I always made certain that the VOL code was on my unit NSIPS. In reality my dwell time averaged about 18 months or a little between my 4 deployments between March of '03 and June of '10. Of course it depend on your specialty and the needs of the command you report to. Active duty is different. Look at all of our services' special forces units and their multi-missions. Normally, a unit, (ship) has a 12-18 months between deployments, with minor deployments such as ORE, possibly a 1-2 week training cruise for reservists and midshipmen, etc.. For the individual, you could potentially be faced with a cross deck, a transfer from one unit to another. If Your current unit is just returned from deployment and it's replacement unit is in need of someone in your pay grade and rate or have skills that you possess, you could be turned around on short notice. It does happen, the frequency depends on the combination of those factors I have already listed.
