I’m currently on order to Korea with my family for two years. How long do I have to be in Korea before I can put in a OCS packet?

For commissioning, there are no time on station requirements. If you are accepted, it will override your DEROS; it's one of the few things that can instantly override a DEROS.

I doubt there is a time requirement. I put in an OCS packet after being in Europe for three months and that was just because they had to put together a board for me.

SFC (Join to see) There shouldn’t be a time constraint on the amount of time you are in Korea. I knew multiple people stationed in Korea who applied and found out they got accepted to OCS while being there. The only thing that might affect you dropping a packet right now would be if you have actual orders to Korea and aren’t actually there yet. The MILPER states you can’t drop a packet if you are on orders so I’m assuming you’d have to report to Korea before you begin the application process.

SGT Andres Figueroa,
Sorry that’s what I meant. Do I have to serve one of the years with my family before I can put in my packet. We report in January. I will finish my degree in May so I need to go, however I’m not sure if I have to serve two years before I can drop the packet or just do a year.

SFC (Join to see) There’s no requirement for the amount of time you have to be in Korea that I noticed in the MILPER or reg. I think they have the rule if you are on orders so people can’t decide to drop packets just to simply avoid Korea because once you submit your application to HRC you won’t be allowed to move or change units until the results are released.

If you get accepted to OCS, you will leave, period. I was in Europe on a three year tour with my family, got accepted to OCS and left within a year, whole family included.
