How long does it take for a Reserve Unit to find a new AGR or Unit Administrator?

I am an S1 and am losing both my Unit Administrator and AGR soldier. They will both be gone by June, and I will be left with no full time staff. I am wondering what the timeline is for reserve units to replace these Soldiers/civilians? I can manage for the time being, but without ADOS orders or a full time person it could be difficult doing two jobs.

Contact your higher HQs and start placing the vacant announcement right away, I'm sure your unit has plenty of qualified soldier that could apply for it! nevertheless, be ready for the "we have no funds" reply you might get from them.

You didnt mention if the AGR soldier is an officer or enlisted. AGR officers are managed by HRC. If they didn't backfill your guy then there is probably a shortage of people who can rotate in this PCS cycle. I am not familiar with the NCO rotations but i would guess they are simular. I would go with Major Rivera's suggestion and ask your higher to provide a FTM to backfill until someone is put in place. Of course work with your Commander and show the risk of no FTM against spending funds for an ADOS orders temp replacement until the FTM is worked out. I wouldn't loose too much sleep, your higher HQ should step up and help out in these kinds of situations. (It's their job) And your commander has the juice to get this fixed.

The AGR will PCS in; assignment instructions are issued quarterly. Prioritization if HRC is understrength goes by ARFOGEN cycle.
For the UA, the civilian hierarchy needs to put a vacancy announcement out through OPM to USA Jobs. The process from start to finish takes about 90 days, if everyone is on task.

a freakishly long amount of time depending on the mood of the people approving the positions and the budgets.

I would find someone in the unit ASAP to put on orders to do the job until you find someone.

It's not predictable.

AGR fills will take place according to the Mission Essential Requirements (MER) list. I am just finalizing mine now for my command. This basically rank orders all my projected or actual AGR vacancies on a 1 to n basis and that is what order HRC will fill them. Get with your chain of command to input and let them know you need to be higher priority than other units in your major command. The UA will need to be advertised, but you can do a by name of a Soldier in the unit. If that is the case, you can skip the whole advertising, interviewing, etc. Get with the SSA at your battalion HHC to show you how to do this.

I actually just went through the UA hiring process. Job was posted for 9 days on USA jobs. (It closed 20 OCT 16) Interview took place a month later. Contingent job offer was given a month later. After filling out a plethora of paperwork and having to go through another clearance investigation I was granted an interim clearance and start date of 04 APR 16. Short story...... 5 and a half months to get me on board. This doesn't include additional training needed. Access to various systems granted etc. etc.

Riehle! Hey buddy, long answer short, a really long time!!! As in, if it happens within 6 months then you guys will be really lucky! I know a unit that is currently in about month 8 or 9 of their search/hiring process...
