Going Air Force! Really excited! So I got my clearances by Doctors ect and the recruiter said that all that stuff has to be sent to the Surgeon General to get stamp off on too. He said this could take up to 6 to 8 months. Is this worse case scenario or the norm?

I think your misunderstanding something here. Your Doctors did not clear you. The Surgeon General is only involved in appeals of a Medical DQ (by your Recruiter) or a requested second opinion by the MEPS Doctors. Unless I am mistaken and I have been away from USAREC HQ for a while so I defer to a recent USAF Recruiter. Those are MEPS (MEPCOM) rules by the way that apply to all services, so an Army Recruiter could answer this as well.

I believe you also have a 12 month limit on your Accessions / Enlistment process, so you need to add 8 months to whenever you started it and if it goes over 12 months, you will be forced to start over again once you hit 12 months.

Ummm really hope that doesn't happen, I'm hoping it won't take that long because I have clearance letters from.everyone saying I'm fit for duty, so are you saying I'm climbing an impossible mountain?

You need to ask your Recruiter directly what is going on here. Surgeon General is a Presidential Cabinet position and it is not normal he is asked for input on enlistments. So if everyone says your fit for duty, why do they need to ask the Surgeon General anything? That's the question I would ask the Recruiter.

And no it is not an impossible mountain otherwise your Recruiter would not have bothered, so again ask your Recruiter what is going on here. Ask the Recruiter questions on this and judge for yourself what is going on based on the answers. If your not getting answers then go higher in the Recruiters chain of command.

I think this is required for the Prior Service- Interservice Transfer...basically both sides (USARMY) and (USAF) have to bless off on it...In most cases it must be proven that you are leaving the USARMY in an Overstrength MOS and going into an AFSC that is needed in the Air Force...I know these transfers are not as easy as they used to be...but I am not a recruiter and don't know the current assession plan for either service...I know that this packet does go up the Chain of Command significantly..

Uh...I've never heard of a situation where the Surgeon General has to sign off on an enlistment...

I never heard of a situation where the Surgeon General over rules a MEPS Doctor (I'm sure it has happened at some point but I think it is pretty rare) but I have heard of packets being sent to the Surgeon General because some Recruiters want to do all they can for an applicant.

SPC Erich Guenther - Glad to hear my recruiter is doing all he can for me, but wouldn't it just be simpler to send me to MEPS to have me evaluated and let the MEPS doctor decide and review everything? Granted this is generally normal protacal to hurry and wait haha. I just don't want to think at all my hard work of getting back and shape and running around getting all of this done will be for nothing

You need to ask your Recruiter why the Surgeon General is involved in your enlistment and listen to what he or she says because it is NOT normal to ask the Surgeon General for input.
