If they are the soldiers S1 should be able to process the paperwork and like MSG Private RallyPoint Member said it typically takes less than a month. I enlisted into the IRR after completion of my full commitment of active duty. Upon that I received a copy of the IRR contract that day as I walked away from the out processing station. Entering into a USAR TPU 1 year later, took a bit longer than expected, S1 for the gaining unit submitted my copies, but the originals were never properly filed at Ft. Dix in 1982. Generally entry to IRR for enlisted is automatic after completion of the active duty portion of the contract. X years active and y years reserve service (IRR). Commissioned Officers fall into a different status, as I understand; generally keeping a Reserve Commission unless tending a resignation. You would need to check with an S1 section to comfirm. He Took care of some family issues and got away from the flagpole. Now he's being picked up by one of the operator units and will be deploying worldwide. He has his choice of missions and many different commands are asking him to be with them. He has the skill sets, three languages and the top secret clearance. Military intelligence and civil affairs are skill sets he has. He will probably be deployed for most of the next year and a half in choice missions that he didn't even know existed. It took six to seven months for him to get into the irr with calling or visiting in person his regional support group, his Brigade command and numerous calls to Fort Bragg before he finally went into the irr.
Response by LTC Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 25 at 2019 10:53 PM 2019-01-25T22:53:56-05:00 2019-01-25T22:53:56-05:00 LTC Private RallyPoint Member 4544536

Update, my friend finally got into the irr a year ago. He took care of some personal business and was picked up for a one-year mission in Africa. He is happy and productive. For us it is the 88th RSC. Packets can take anywhere from a Week to a Month depending on them. I have one at 140 days right now for an officer.
