Many times they want to know why you are leaving so it&#39;s best to have a letter stating your purpose for transferring ie.. you need a higher salary, financial hardship, spouse joining and you want to follow them etc. As a former recruiter, I have seen units hold on to it for many reasons, deployment they have not told you about yet, unit is under strength or they payed you a bonus they want you to fulfill your obligation or understrength in your MOS. Best case scenario... 2 MONTHS. Worst case... 6 MONTHS TO NEVER.
