How long does one have to clear for PCS, according to regulation?

Here is my situation... I am currently deployed and I am on Assignment with a June 10, 2015 report date. My unit has mentioned sending me back around early April in order to start clearing. Now with my pcs leave and permissive TDY for house hunting that puts me signing out May 16th. So there is no definite date I would make it back to the states, but I would imagine that it will take a week to get back, tack on another week for reintegration training and then starting to clear. I am looking at about 30 days to set up household goods pickup and clearing. That seems like a very tight timeline... I am trying to see if there is some regulation that states how long you have to clear for PCS. I've heard the whole 90 days is adequate for PCSing and 90 days would put me at March 10th. Thanks in advance...

SFC Private RallyPoint Member I do not know of any regulation for this. I know that I was given 6 week notice to pack my stuff up, move, and report to ECCC and that was before I received my orders. AC may be different than AGR though.

I know the unit must give Soldiers that are ETSing 90 days for transition. Off the top of my head I can not recall the regulation AR 635-200 maybe? It use to be 60 days but it was changed a couple years back to 90, maybe an ALRACT or MILPER?

When my unit was in Afghanistan we had to have Soldiers ETSing back in the United States before that 90 days started. I don't think that it applies to PCSing.

I am confused on why your branch would put you on assignment with that report date knowing that you were deployed. My advice is to call your branch manager and have them shift your report date if possible, or talk to your chain of command and explain your situation. Ask your S-1 if there is a policy.

I will keep digging around the regs and let you know if I find anything.

SFC Oddo, Per AR 600-8-101, 3-2(7) Soldiers will be given a minimum of 3 working days to out-process unless it is locally determined that soldiers can out-process quicker. Keep in mind that each installation has their own policy on clearing. Some have more and some have less. Keep in mind the time that you will need to turn in CIF, and also the JPPSO time frame from appointment to pick-up.

SFC Private RallyPoint Member Not sure of a regulation, but I am pretty sure most bases have standards against what they allow for PCS. Having left Fort Hood, they gave 5 days for single Soldiers and 10 days for Married Soldiers. The 30 days PCS is an option. As for the 10 days PTDY, you can always take that on the flip side once you are there.

As you know, it can all be done, I would think it comes down to how bad do you want the assignment you are going to? You could fight the time line and possibly lose the assignment or see if your unit can send you have 2 weeks earlier.

As a Senior NCO, you can push through things a little easier than most.
