How long would it take to get back to Specialist after receiving a FG Art 15 and being reduced in rank from E-4 to E-2? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-long-would-it-take-to-get-back-to-specialist

Recently received a FG Art 15 which the end result/punishment was just a reduction of rank to E2 from E4. After the demotion my flag will be lifted and I will be eligible to be re-class/re-enlist. I have about 32 almost 33 months TIS, so I was wondering after my DOR reflects the demotion to PV2 how long would it take to get back to my previous rank back? My CoC all stated they have no issues with me and that I’m a good soldier. I would like some help or insight since this is the first time I ever received a article 15 or major offense. Thank you. You will just have to do the TIG requirements, can't early promote after a reduction, six months and six months when I was enlisted.
The good news, if they haven't went over this part, is that an Article 15 as an E-4 will go away after two years or when you PCS. So don't do anything stupid again and you are home free.
You need to update your profile, you are listed as a recruit. You have to re-earn the TIG requirements for E3 and E4, your TIS will continue to accrue. The insight you should learn from this is Art. 15 (and other NJP/JP, are a tools for Commanders to ensure that everyone understands that the rules are enforceable and for specific reasons, not just the Soldier that has been reprimanded. As you move through your career, use it as a teaching moment, not a badge of honor. Express to your Soldiers that we all make mistakes, but we learn from them, and improve.

Many times a lot of thought goes into how far to reduce a Soldier, or how much pay to withhold. Take the cumulative TIG recovery as a testament to the severity of the offense and an indicator of the time the Command team feels you owe the command to make up for the infraction. Typically if the CoC has no problems with a soldier and they have no problems with them they promote that soldier or give them more responsibility. I just can’t imagine your COC is concerned with your future promotion but more on training you to ensure you do not commit the same offense which warranted a FG Art 15. Just my observation . Because you were reduced you are not eligible for waivers, you will have to serve the full time in grade for promotion to E3 and E4. Those are listed in the reg. You'll have to be on top of your commander since you're no longer in the automatic group, your commander has to manually promote you.

About your reenlistment - you won't be able to reenlist this year. The RCP for an E3 is five years. You have three years in, your max reenlistment would be two years if you were an E3 right now. Instead, what you will do is once you pin PFC you will walk over to Retention and sign a "W" extension, extending your ETS another year while you wait to get promoted. Once you're an E4 your RCP is eight years and you can reenlist for whatever you want. Your DOR resets upon the new rank given. You are now going to have to meet TIG as a PV2 before PFC and TIG as a PFC for SPC. Since you were reduced from an Article 15, you are not authorized any waivers. MSG Private RallyPoint Member Fri, 13 May 2022 10:19:40 -0400 2022-05-13T10:19:40-04:00 2022-05-12T07:16:53-04:00
