My old 1SG, now retired is still my mentor, we try to have lunch once a month when possible, but talk on a regular bases. I know I can call or e-mail text whenever and he is there to listen. When i took responsibilty of my first Battery he was there and I thinked him for everything he has done for me, during my speech.

I actually saw my former leader while I was at SLC, his wife was in my class. We caught up on old times and how he was a big impact on my career. He helped me to be the NCO I am today, and I thanked him for it.
