I spent three months up there as a VIP briefer with 5/20th INF in '87. Saw some funny stuff.
Our PFC driver was getting buckled in the tour van as we were taking a three-star and his entourage on a tour of the positions on the DMZ. The General asked, "What's gonna happen if I don't wear my seatbelt?"

Without batting an eye, the PFC said, "Oh, don't worry about that, General. I'll drive nice and slow so you can walk alongside as we go."

Kid got a coin for that... and I've had almost 30 years worth of giggles.

Aug 1977- Nov 1979 C CO 1/32nd in Camp Howze, B CO2/9th, B CO 1/9th Camp Greves , HHC 3rd BDE Camp Howze I got caught up when Pres Carter sent 1/9th to Ft Riley Ks.
1981-1982 C CO 1/ 17th inf(mech) Camp Casey
!989-1990 C CO 5/20th(mech) inf Camp Casey
Enjoyed every tour.

Spent 13 months in DMZ.Thought I was going to spend more after the capture of the Pueblo.Certainly not as bad as Vietnam,but when dealing with N.Korean lunatics,always something going on.Between the Barrier and Guard posts,can`t say that I want to return.( but ) I`ve never been so proud as when I`m wearing something that has 2nd Inf. on it.

I was stationed at Camp Rose from 69' - 71', and we provided "search light", on the Imjin River. Along with manning 50 cal over watch in the "Freedom Briidge" area. In the last couple of months, we turned Camp Rose over to the ROK and moved to Camp Casey!

Deployed to Warrior base for during 90-91 with 5/20 Infantry scout platoon. Did 20 day and night missions in the dmz. Without a doubt the scariest place I have ever been at night. I was proud to wear the Indian head, there is a reason NK haven't made another move south. They know 2ID is waiting.
