I was a KL-51 guy. Never used a KL-47.

I suspect it Predates the 51. It truly is an ancient dark art. Started my Career as an Off-Line Operator at CINCPACFLT.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel I had to learn to read tape in A school off of one, but never used them operationally. Slightly before my time, I think.

Paper tape..oh the memories..lol My first duty station was all paper tape and Mod-28's. Made for a busy watch...lol

Had to read 35 characters per minute to graduate "A" school, if I remember correctly.

PO1 Tom Martin - Close, When both of Us Came Up. To Graduate A-School You had to Type 30 WPM on a Mod 28 and Read Tape at 50 Characters a Minute. When You went Up for First Class You Were No Longer Required to Read Tape but You Had to Type 35 WPM on Your PARS. I think I Typed Out at 39 WPM the Last Time I Had Too.
